How do I connect my family tree to one of my family members?

@Nathaniel Simon Notheisen, so to start FamilySearch's Family Tree is ONE tree for everyone. It is divided into two major parts. There is the Public part for Deceased individuals and the Private part for Living individuals. Everyone has the same access to the Deceased area but Every user has their own separated Living Area.
Everyone can "see: your Deceased but only you can see your Living. You cannot "see" anyone else's Living.
Could you be more specific as to what you want to do? Do you want to connect a Living or Deceased individual to The One Public FamilySearch Family Tree or something else?

Put another way, others cannot connect with your ID in the tree, because they do not have access to it or any other records for living members of your family that you have created.
Other users (including close family members) will only be able to see records for my / our grandparents and generations further back.
There is frequently discussion on how the current system can be modified so living relatives can be "shared" by a family group. For now, there have to be multiple IDs created for living persons, which can be merged when they become deceased.

At Roots Tech they said we could join our living members to be able to see our family tree together. Did I hear wrong? How would I make our "group"?
