All tree hints up/down feature request

It would be nice to see all available hints for my tree in one place, perhaps able to be ordered by generation, and perhaps upwards or downwards from a specific person. Also filtered by type, generation and whether or not already attached to someone.

    Hi jhlees

Thank you for that great idea! That would be a really tidy and well structured tool. Now the information you would like to see in that one place, is spread "all over the place".

My suggestion is that they make an additional app for this.

    Kindly

    @jhlees

    FYI

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

    Interesting suggested enhancement ...

    And, certainly sounds good ...

    But ...

    That Said ...

    I am sorry ...

[ And, certainly, NOT, to dampen enthusiasm ... ]

    Just a 'pipe dream' ...

    And, highly impractical ...

Even if, such could be, developed; and, implemented ...

[ I would humbly venture to suggest, that ... ]

Using such, would SLOW, the "System", down to a CRAWL ...

    ie.

My "Ancestral" Lines, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', are quite extensive, EXTREMELY so ...

IF. every Users/Patrons, "Ancestral" Lines, were anywhere near; as, extensive as mine; THEN, could you just imagine how BIG, that those "Lists" of "Record Hints", for ALL of one's Ancestors, for ALL Users/Patrons, would be ...

Nice, in "Theory"; but, certainly, NOT, in practice ...

    As as aside ...

That is WHY, one's "List" of "Recommended Task", on one's "Home"/"Landing" page/screen, IS 'finite' (ie. "Limited" - only a certain amount); and, when one has actioned, those on the "List"; then, NEW ones appear.

    Again ...

    Interesting suggested enhancement ...

    And, certainly sounds good ...

    But, highly impractical ...

    Just my thoughts.

I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

    Brett

If you "Try new homepage features" (I see on homepage at upper right) - you can view all Tree TASKS (hints would be for records - not sure if you have already seen that):

    https://www.familysearch.org/eurona/feed/tasks

You get to the same view under Recommended Tasks> View All. There doesn't seem to be any sorting - such as your request - and I don't know the random order in which these are displayed.

This pretty much already exists. It would be impossible to show all hinkts on one page. There are just too many. So they are "all in one place" over several pages. They are ordered by generation and do show up or down from one individual. There are no filters for type of hint, they just all show. And previously attached hints are no longer hints, so they are instead shown as sources.

    Here is how this works:

    1) Decide on your starting person, whether yourself or someone else.

    2) Go to the fan chart for that person.

    3) Set the fan chart to show Research Helps:

I'm pretty sure that data problems take priority over hints and hints take priority over research helps, so some of the red squares may also have hints.

Attached hints are sources, so you can see who probably has hints already attached by changing the setting to sources:

Once you have address all the hints going up from your starting person:

    1) On the fan chart pick a new starting person and jump to that person's tree.

    2) Change your view to the descendancy chart.

    3) Set the chart to show record hints:

Now you can see up to four generations of people and whether they have any hints. By clicking on the sideways pointing arrows as you work down the chart, you can see even more generations.

By working back and forth through the pedigree chart views, you will be able to see, nicely organized, all the hints on your relatives and stay busy working on these.

One note about the "Research Helps" setting on the fan chart: it only shows some data problems. Possible duplicates do not show in that chart.

(I have less experience with the descendancy chart, so I don't know whether it shows possible duplicates or not.)
