In Advanced Edit Mode in Reviewing Names: Once I have finished my edits and return to the image, the Report Transcription Error dialog box is still open. Do I hit submit? If I hit cancel, will all of my advanced edits be cancelled?

@Lance_Kaczorowski Sorry, I was confused because you mentioned you were reviewing "Baptismal Records". Sounds like you might be on a special project team? Don't they give you a contact person? They should! (I'm a non-church member volunteer and not privy to all your different teams.) I only saw your post because I previously answered a question in this group and provided some very generic information. It is always best to start a new post to get the best answers. You start a new post by clicking on the + sign.

I don't see why they would have you change the name that is written on the document. However, I will say that in Family Review of the 1950 Census for my small hometown, I have corrected the names since I am familiar with the people. For instance, last evening there was a family indexed as Partzer and I knew their name was Portzer so I fixed it. It was difficult to tell if the enumerator had written an O or an A; AI and/or the Name Reviewer didn't index the correct spelling. On another record, I had to search and finally used a Find A Grave post because I could see their tombstone and the correct spelling. I recalled them as having a "z" in their name and it was indexed as a "y".

I feel like you need to have some knowledge of the family before you begin changing the names from what is on the document and be sure that is the correct spelling of their name. Diacritics don't affect the search engine. The difference between that z and y wouldn't have either, but, I wanted to be sure it was correct.

You might find your answers in the more informative 1950 Census community page as opposed to this general Get Involved group. Click on the Community Home tab and then the 1950 Census Group. You can search the group or repost your questions since that group is dedicated to Name Review and not general indexing.

    Best wishes!
