FAMILY HISTORY CENTER( FHC) TRAINING FOR T&FHC- FAMILY HISTORY CENTER (DIRECTORS)
Because I have over 30 years experience in FHC's and five years as a FHC support missionary. I was asked by my Stake Leadership to visit our four FHC's. I have been amazed at the lack of understanding on how to run a center. The primary cause I found was not the directors but, the lack of training from the Church. The manual is so old for the FHC's it is almost useless. I was release two years ago at a FHC and was recently called to take over another one. After I filled out my paper work on line I was never contacted about training. This group is really good but does not take the place of one on one or group training. Another problem I found was that the Bishops whose wards the FHC's are in think they are responsible for the center. I am hoping the stake will let me do some training for the directors. Thanks goodness we have this sight so directors can as questions.

I suggest you join the FamilySearch Community Group, "Family History Center Technical Support (North America)" They have two monthly online meetings. The First one focuses on Technology in the Family History Center and is held on the first Thursday each month. The second focuses on managing and supporting Family History centers and is held on the third Thursday of each month.
This link after you sign in to FamilySearch will allow you to join the community group and ask questions as well as provide an index of articles with links to the articles. You will also find links for the two meetings held at three different time zones.
Whenever you contact Family History Center Support the Missionary will tell you about the meetings and will help you join the group.

Our present position of being able to use very good computers in our FHCs, is a wonderful blessing to all involved. However, as you have observed, there is a general lack of "technical" ability with the T&FHCs, albeit they are brilliant with their eagerness for Family History endeavours and a great willingness to serve in the Centres.
I would love to see a set of Webinar's aimed at providing understanding of computer setup, operation and maintenance for T&FHCs, to which the Leaders of our Wards and Branches could also be invited.
I do appreciate your concern George.
