Are there any resources for researching and documenting deaths of Norwegian seaman either at sea or in foreign lands? At the moment I am researching Jonas Christoffersen (L4JM-JNM) who died during a voyage around 1868. He probably sailed from Stavanger where his family lived.

I have looked for a death record in Domkirken Parish in Stavanger, but have not found his death there. In the past I have been able to find some sea deaths documented in the home parish.

Since you don't have an answer here yet, I'll try to give one despite no experience with the type of search you are trying.

You might want to ask for advice from Sjømannskirken. You can probably contact them through their website: https://i.sjomannskirken.no/her/ They were founded in 1864, so maybe they kept records of seamen who died at sea in the time period you are searching.
