Family Groups - multiple
Please allow to create/join multiple family groups. I find this lack of functionality severely limiting.
Family members often won't(or unable to) join because they are part of a different family group on different side of family. If you are concerned with too many family groups proliferating, I think you could still instill some limits such as no more than 5 family groups, though I think that issue really is a minor one.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]
FYI
I myself, made this suggestion, just yesterday ...
( 7:06 pm ) Sunday, 14 November 2021, My 'Local' Time ( UTC +11 Hours ) ...
FamilySearch Help
'Category' = Suggest An Idea
HOME > FAMILYSEARCH HELP > SUGGEST AN IDEA
IMMEDIATE "Requested" Enhancement - ALLOW Users/Patron, to a Member, of MORE that ONE (Family) Group
But ...
That Said ...
I DID NOT suggest ANY "Limitation", on the NUMBER of "Family Groups", one could be a member ...
And ...
'Yes', you are CORRECT ...
The matter is NOT a MINOR one ...

Agreed!! Please please allow the functionality to be a part of more than one group. I would like to set up groups for both sides of my extended family, but cannot. Also, I love the group idea. Thank you so much for adding this functionality.

Yes, please! I was disappointed to see that even if my husband created the new family group, I couldn't be a part of it because I was already part of my family group. It would help to be able to share names within certain family groups so that we are still doing them for people we are related to.
Thank you!

'Heads-Up' ...
I just took a 'look', in the "Beta" (ie. "Test") Environment, for 'FamilySearch' ...
Waiting in the wings ...
The ability, to "Create"; and, be part of (as, a member) a MAXIMUM of TEN (x10) "Family Groups" ...
[ I "Created" x10 of the "Family Groups"; and, then, the "+ CREATE GROUP" was 'Greyed Out' - NO More ... ]
It is coming ...
Hopefully, sooner, rather than later ...

I NEED at least two family groups. One for my husband and children, and one for my parents and siblings, and of course my siblings’ children.
would be nice to have other groups, for ministering to various sisters in the ward, or for a group relief society temple trip, for consultants to help the homebound share with their ministering brothers, etc.
REALLY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW, THOUGH TO HAVE AT LEAST TWO GROUPS. My husband would not appreciate his ancestors being shared with my siblings children as much as he would want those names to be shared with our own children.
I want my children to know that the names in our group are related to them.
I only want to share names with my siblings and relatives on my side of the family names that are related to them, and not my husband’s side I want to be able to share names from my side with either my children or my relatives, as I choose for each name
thus, we logically NEED AT LEAST ONE GROUP FOR EACH SIDE OF A MARRIAGE more groups would be needed for anyone that has multiple marriages
many others would be a WANT at this point

You are not alone ...
Just about all of us, would like to be either, able to "Create"; &/or, be a member of, MORE than, ONE "Group".
Unfortunately ...
We just have to be patient and wait, until such is "Enabled", in the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment.
It is a matter of 'Time' ...
How long that will be, is UNKNOWN ...
Obviously, there are a lot of, "Bugs"; and, OTHER matters, to 'work out' (ie. address/fix) ...
[ With just with being able to, "Create"; &/or, be a member of, ONE "Group"; let alone, MULTIPLE "Groups"... ]
Just my thoughts.
Brett
ps: It 'looks' like, MAXIMUM number of "Groups", that we can either, "Create"; &/or, be a member of, is x10.

I'm just unable to comprehend the one family group restriction. Well, maybe if you're not married. This just encourages megagroups of unrelated persons which is surely not an intended use.

Just in passing ...
There are Many possible DIFFERENT forms of ("Family") "Groups", there are:
[ BUT, certainly NOT "Limited" to ... ]
(1) 'Literal' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(2) 'Ward'/'Branch' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(3) 'Stake/District/Mission' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(4) 'Helping' ("Family") "Groups" [ ie. those that a User/Patron is "Helping" ]; and/or,
(5) ('Consultant) 'Planner' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(6) 'Young Mens' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(7) 'Young Womens' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(8) 'Elders Quorum' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(9) 'Relief Society' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(10) the list of ("Family") "Groups" just goes on ...
ALL, of the aforementioned ("Family") "Groups", PRIMARILY, for the "Sharing" the "Temple" Work; plus, also for a SECONDARY form of a "Group" 'Messaging' Tool.
But ...
That Said ..
It is certainly possible; but, that said, I do not think, that there would, be too many, 'megagroups' ...
And, as to "... unrelated persons ...", it really depends on how narrow, one's definition is of, "Unrelated" ...
As an aside ...
At the moment, in the "Beta" (ie. "Test") Environment, for 'FamilySearch', one can either, "Create"; and/or, be a member of, a MAXIMUM number of TEN (x10) "Groups", at any given time.
So ...
That Said ...
It 'looks' like, that the current thinking; but, NOT yet implemented, is that the MAXIMUM number of "Groups", that one can either, "Create"; and/or, be a member of, at any given time, is TEN (x10).
Just my thoughts.

FYI
"Heads-Up" ...
EXCITING stuff ...
It is here ...
And, available ...
[ No less, in the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment ... ]
It appears NOW, that we CAN be members, of MORE than just ONE, "Family Group".
ie. We CAN now, be members, of MULTIPLE, "Family Groups".
[ Well, I would suggest, up to a MAXIMUM of, maybe, at least, Ten (x10) ... ]
[ If, the "Beta" (ie. "Test") Environment, is any example ... ]
I just had a 'look', there is NO LONGER, a bar from "Creating" a SECOND or More "Family Groups".
And, I was "Sent", an "Invite", to a "Family Group"; and, able to "Join" a SECOND "Family Group", despite ALREADY being the member, of ANOTHER, "Family Group".
Then, I initiated, the process, to "Create" ANOTHER, "Family Group".
Hooray ...
Whoopee ...
Enjoy ...

As this has been implemented, I'm going to close the idea and mark it as implemented. For further comments, hoopla, and celebrations, please head over to Brett's thread in the Family Tree - Heads-Up. Exciting. Its here. We CAN now, be members, of MULTIPLE, "Family Groups" (maybe, x10)
