The premise of "Family Groups" is excellent.
ie. PRIMARILY: for the "Sharing" the "Temple" Work; and,
.... SECONDARY,: a form of "Group" 'Messaging' Tool
But ...
That Said ...
The RESTRICTION, of ONLY allowing, a User/Patron, to be a Member, of ONE ("Family") "Group", at a time, is TERRIBLY "Oppressive"; and, unconscionable.
PLEASE; Please; please ...
Withdraw the RESTRICTION, of ONLY allowing, a User/Patron, to be a Member, of ONE ("Family") "Group", at a time.
Please allow a User/Patron, to be a Member, of as MANY ("Family") "Groups", at a time; as, they desire.
There are Many DIFFERENT forms of ("Family") "Groups", there are:
[ BUT, certainly NOT "Limited" to ... ]
(1) 'Literal' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(2) 'Ward'/'Branch' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(3) 'Stake/District/Mission' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(4) 'Helping' ("Family") "Groups" [ ie. those that a User/Patron is "Helping" ]; and/or,
(5) ('Consultant) 'Planner' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(6) 'Young Mens' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(7) 'Young Womens' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(8) 'Elders Quorum' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(9) 'Relief Society' ("Family") "Groups"; and/or,
(10) the list of ("Family") "Groups" just goes on ...
ALL, of the aforementioned ("Family") "Groups", PRIMARILY, for the "Sharing" the "Temple" Work; but, also for a SECONDARY form of a "Group" 'Messaging' Tool.

Probably be good to make sure these family groups work properly first. It's taken them at least eight years to get to this point. Let's give then a chance to get all the bugs worked out before making it even more complex. They haven't even added in Shared Living yet, which I would assume is their next goal for adding a feature to these family groups.

Family Groups - multiple
Please allow to create/join multiple family groups. I find this lack of functionality severely limiting.
Family members often won't(or unable to) join because they are part of a different family group on different side of family. If you are concerned with too many family groups proliferating, I think you could still instill some limits such as no more than 5 family groups, though I think that issue really is a minor one.

I TOTALLY understand, your point of view ...
But ...
That Said ...
Although, from another perspective ...
Such SHOULD have been, CONSIDERED; and, ADDRESSED, [and, with APPROPRIATE (Pre) "Testing"], in the ORIGINAL 'Design' and 'Development' stages ...
Surely, those (or, at least, 'someone') at 'FamilySearch', would have been, aware; and, realised, that BRING the likes of "Groups" (all-be-it, 'literally', "Family" ones), into 'FamilySearch', to enable the "Sharing", of "Temple" Work (ie. "Reservations") within designated "Groups", would mean, that there WOULD have had to have been, MORE than ONE ... so-called, "Family" ... "Group" - EVEN, for just 'literally', "Family" ones.
And, literally ... 'Opened the Flood Gates' ... of the want/desire, for the proliferation, of various "Groups".
Such was the "Buzz" in my particular Ward, on Sunday, past (ie. Yesterday, in my case).
[ I myself, for one, could do with a few such 'Groups', just within, the "Extended" Family 'dynamic' ... ]
So ...
That Said ...
Although, I understand, your point of view ...
Such is ... far too late, after the horse has bolted ...
Such ... SHOULD have been, figured into the equation ... well in advance ... of a "Release" ...
[ ie. Especially, in the "Production" (ie. "Live") Environment ... ]
Just my thoughts.

Thank you Gordon, I'm a software developer and the idea that "the horse has bolted" isn't a sound one. Features can be added/enhanced/changed and even removed and they often are on this site as well as millions of others. I'm grateful that the church has put such effort into the site. Just from recent streamlining changes to the site, this last year I've been able to do about 1/3 more work for the same amount of time all because the church made changes to their "Production" environment. I don't see this feature of multiple family groups as not being do-able. In fact I see some UI elements that may suggest they are at least thinking about adding this feature in the future. Thank you again for your thoughts.

Waiting in the wings ...
The ability, to "Create"; and, be part of (as, a member) a MAXIMUM of TEN (x10) "Family Groups" ...
[ I "Created" x10 of the "Family Groups"; and, then, the "+ CREATE GROUP" was 'Greyed Out' - NO More ... ]
It is coming ...
Hopefully, sooner, rather than later ...

[ Well, I would suggest, up to a MAXIMUM of, maybe, at least, Ten (x10) ... ]
[ If, the "Beta" (ie. "Test") Environment, is any example ... ]
I just had a 'look', there is NO LONGER, a bar from "Creating" a SECOND or More "Family Groups".
And, I was "Sent", an "Invite", to a "Family Group"; and, able to "Join" a SECOND "Family Group", despite ALREADY being the member, of ANOTHER, "Family Group".
Then, I initiated, the process, to "Create" ANOTHER, "Family Group".
Hooray ...
Whoopee ...
