Set Date for a source/reference

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Providing you are referencing, "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch' ...
I am a little confused ...
▬ You start of by referencing, a "Source"; and, 'Set' a 'Date'.
▬ Then, you reference the "Web" Site; and, "Mobile" Application, finishing off with PDF (attachments).
Question: Are you referring to, adding a "Memory"; as, a "Source"?
And, further, is it, the 'Date', on the 'Left-Hand-Side/Column", of the "Sources" 'Tab", to which you refer?
Can you please clarify what you are trying to do.
[ And ... Are you working between, the "Mobile" Application"; and, the Computer (Web), versions? ]
Please advise.

Hi Brett,
thanks for your fast reply.
Well, I use the webiste to 90%, sometimes I use the mobile android app. It depends If i'm at home or meet my grandfather....
When I create a source on the website I have the following page:
There is no "date" field.
If I edit an existing source from by "source box" I still have not date.
I found out that I have the date only when I opening a person and add/edit a source from there.
Why is it not possible the define the date directly on the date? I think the date is more fixed to the source than to the relationship between person and source. It is a little bit confusing to me.
Concerning the app issue:
In the app it is higlighted, that a date for a source is missing (in German: Datum hinzufügen/Add Date):
When I do this (adding the date) directly in the app: I get this page:
The Source has an attachment of type PDF and is not displayable in the app. When I fill out the date and click the save button...the date is stored on your servers (fine :-) ) but the attachment is removed, because the app can't display pdfs and clear the attachment.

Now, that is better, I am not so confused ...
'Yes', I really ONLY use the "Mobile" Application for 'show and tell', certainly NOT for any REAL work ...
"Mobile" Application, certainly 'came in 'handy', when we were travelling the World, in contact with others ...
Short Answer: 'Yes', NO such 'Date' Field, when Attaching/Creating a "Source" - by 'Design', I suggest.
That 'Date' Field, ONLY relates, to being able, to "Sort" the "Sources", in the "sources' 'Tab', of an individual/person. Specifically, for the "Chronological" Order; but, such can also help with sorting "Sources" for the "Custom" Order.
I am certainly NOT familiar with doing such in the "Mobile" Application ...
I just had to familiarise myself ... as, I do not "Read" German, I had to look at one on my "Mobile" Phone
I got to, that last "Image", of yours.
I understand, what you are saying, that the "Mobile" Application CANNOT display a PDF ...
[ As, I get that "Image Not Available" ... ]
Now ...
That Said ...
Question: Are you say that when you ADD that "Even Date", that the "Memory" (ie. in your case, PDF) EITHER:
▬ the "Source" (ie. in this case, as a "Memory") disappears, from the "Sources" 'Tab', altogether?; OR,
▬ the "Memory" (ie. in your case, PDF) disappears, from the Memories" 'Tab', altogether?, OR,
▬ Worse, BOTH?
I just DO NOT want, to try it, on the one, I am looking at (on my "Mobile" Phone).
I am NOT game, to do too much experimenting, with the "Mobile" Application.

@TimDehnert this bugs me too and I agree it would be good to be able to set the record date in the Source Box and Source Linker. So often a historical record gets attached without its date, and then the same date has to be set separately in the source lists on every single profile attached to it.
The reason for this may be just that FT added dates to the source list only a couple years ago, and the push for the feature came from the user experience with the source list. In the source list at first there was just the option to manually sort sources into some kind of order. I sorted them by date. Then came the option to add something to help sort the sources, and there was immediate general agreement that sources should be sorted by date. Finally, records began to be attached with dates. Could it be that records indexed early do not have dates on them?
A possible next step would be to enable setting the record date in the Source Box and Source Linker. That sounds like an Idea.

Source Box feature was updated yesterday. It has new functionality.
One feat is the ability to sort by sources without a date. You can then edit to add the date within the source box.
It is also now possible to add a memory source to a living person using the source box.

Yes! Is the Source Linker getting a similar update? It has been so unstable lately.
