    Deanna, do you know whether "your" Vasváris were Catholic or Protestant? That would be one way to support the idea that this is the same family, and that Dévaványa is the correct interpretation of the arrival manifest's "Desavany".

    Vasvári ("of/from Vasvár", a place in Vas county [westernmost Hungary], composed of vas "iron" and vár "fort") is just uncommon enough that one is tempted to assume that anyone with the name is "yours", but this is a dangerous assumption. Unfortunately, Dévaványa is large enough that it's simply not practicable to page through the unindexed civil registrations, looking for this Margit's further fate, or for any sign of your Etelka.

    To my knowledge, my Vasvari family line belonged to the Reformed Church. Thank you for your assistance, it is always much appreciated!
