Directory Review - location

Am reviewing a directory. The indexer has entered, Burlington, Iowa as the location, but nowhere is Burlington written in the directory. Do I leave it or remove the location?

You need to read the instructions for the project to see what if it tells you what to do. The project instructions are located at the bottom of the page where the indexing was indexed. If it does not tell you, the general rule of Indexing is to only index what you see, so if it is not in the record, it should be marked "Blank".

@JanetSueEnfield , it sounds like you are working on the US—City and Business Directories, 1749–1990 [Part C] project. Please "Share your Batch" for the most accurate answer (Help>Share Batch while the batch is open).

I'm going to suppose that you are working on that project. For that project, if the Directory Place is at the top of the page, as in Indexing Example #1 in those Project Instructions, then and only then do we index that value in the Directory Place Field. We do not look at ads or use other clues to deduce that value.

In Indexing Example #2 for that same project, the Directory Place is not at the top of the page. In that case, we enter a Ctrl+B (<Blank>) for that Directory Place field as they have done (it's not shown, it's just mentioned). Example #2 sounds like your batch. If so, then you would blank all those incorrectly indexed Directory Place values. You can do that efficiently by blanking (Ctrl+B) the Directory Place Field in the first Entry and use the "Copy forward to like fields" icon (6th from the right) to push that blank value to that Field in the rest of the Entries.

But to be sure, please share your Batch info (Batch Code or Batch link/URL), and someone will look at it.
