permissions to change your tree

Yes, it can take many hours (sometimes days) to get your branch in Family Tree back to how it was before another user came along and messed up the whole thing.
It has become a difficult decision for many users as to whether they wish to persevere with the type of behaviour that can be easily found in an open-edit project like this.
On the one hand, it can be completely exasperating having to spend so much time correcting the mistakes of others. However, in my case, it would have probably taken me ten times longer to discover certain branches of my ancestry, if these branches had not already been added (by other users) to Family Tree.
In summary, bad changes can cause a lot of damage and require much remedial work. But, other work (sometimes carried out by completely unrelated users) can be really positive and of great help in discovering your ancestry.
As it is highly unlikely the open-edit format will ever change, it is really up to you to decide if the benefits outweigh the negative side of working with this program.

Please see my submitted idea item#5 for a 'family association' channel (like record hints - perhaps calling it 'Family Tasks' would fit the current naming better) - where the 'family association' is alerted to changes and can accept/deny those community changes. Sort of a pre-publication process which in essence could prevent unwarranted community changes. So restrictive but not an entire 'lock' of the Tree. I like the idea of a 'family association's having this option versus community open-edit because the responsibility for managing tree - 'descendants of ___' - really should reside with the family/descendants - as a group rather than Alerts to Changes being individuals acting alone. Anyway I too hope a solution to prevent unwarranted/mistake changes can be developed.

Hello @trishaoo. Have you considered how likely it is that they are numerous and you have changed their tree?
