It is well-accepted practice to offer the ability to show or hide a written password. Why not so with FamilySearch?

I'm hoping/wondering if we could have the same
"Show" password action found on the church website, please.
A LOT of times, it would truly be useful when assisting a patron at our center and beyond.

Please add an "eye" option to see the Password as you are typing it in.
This would help so many guests as well as missionaries who are trying to help the guests on the phone.

If FS compiled a list of "frequently requested features", this would be very near the top (along with "search among my relatives only" and "dark mode").
There are workarounds; the one that doesn't require anything that you don't already have is to type the password in your favorite text editor, then copy and paste into the password field. This works even if you're using a shared computer, since all devices come with some sort of text editor. If you're on a private device, then an alternative is to take your browser up on its offer to save your login/password.

Thanks, but that is not a very helpful option for 80+ individuals who are already struggling to just type something.

Many of us agree. There should at least be an option to show the password when typing it in. Right now we have a patron who is locked of her account because she tried to type it in too many times.

It would be very helpful, especially with our older genealogists, to add the eye option to the password bar in order to see what is being typed in.

Yeah, no, MFA is evil incarnate. It also presupposes a "one device, one user" paradigm, which is exactly and completely the opposite of the truth in a multi-user environment like an FHC.
I suggest the center make a nice, simple text editor available, with instructions about how to copy and paste from it into the password field.

Adding a "show password" option to the sign-in page should be quite a simple matter for the programmers to deal with, so why the continued resistance to this idea? Many of the websites I use have the option, which is particularly helpful when logging in whilst away from home.
The problem with this forum is that we never receive direct responses from the individuals who would be in the position to implement such ideas. So, we will not be able to discover if there is any likelihood of this specific issue ever being addressed (and if not, why not) or that is simply a matter FamilySearch does not consider to be a priority.

Please make an engineering change to FamilySearch that would allow us
to see the password being entered with the "eye" icon.
We have many patrons and missionaries older than me and signing in blindly often results in the user exceeding the maximum allowance of wrong login attempts. Getting locked out is frustrating for everyone.

Please, Please, Please, add an eye on password box so we can check that we did not have a wide thumb, or hands moving to incorrect keys. As seniors or visually impaired signing in becomes a hassle requiring calling support and establishing a new password.

I'm a senior service missionary at the St. George Family Search Center.
I am frequently asked to assist patrons who have lost or forgotten their account sign-in names and/or passwords.
It would be extremely helpful if they (and we) could see what they are typing in the Password dialog box. But whereas many similar dialog boxes have an "eye" icon to click and enable visual confirmation of what is being typed, this box does not.
I recognize there is a security issue, but I believe it is a minimal consideration when compared to the frustration of trying multiple times to sign in with a correct password only to realize finally that it was merely a typing error. This can send us through the lengthy process of verification on multiple devices just because the patron or missionary can't see what is being typed.
Can this be changed?

Two suggestions for workarounds: use a browser plug-in, or just type the password in your favorite text editor and then copy-and-paste into the password field.

I am a full time FamilySearch missionary. We have many elderly patrons that come in and get very frustrated while trying to log in. Many websites show an Eye Icon next to the password being input. FamilySearch should add this feature because you would spare the Elderly hours of grief.

I want to add my plea to those of others here. I am a FamilySearch missionary, and THE most frustrating aspect of helping others (mostly elderly) log in to FamilySearch is the fact that they cannot see the oftentimes new password they are typing in.
It would help tremendously if the engineers could allow the "eye" to show the password so that patrons could know if they typed it in correctly or not.
I see that it is in the pipeline (since 2022!) However, I think this is an urgent issue that demands a higher priority than it has obviously been given. Patrons are dying awaiting your changes. None of them have much time left. This one issue, if resolved, would make FamilySearch a much more friendly place to be and quite possibly, attract more patrons. Thank you so much.

@Paul W , I believe the eye icon only started appearing with the new sign in page. I know that it depends on a variety of factors, and not all browsers work the same in this regard. But I've only seen the new sign in page for 3 days, and so there haven't been that many opportunities yet (at least for me) to see the eye icon.

One thing I finally noticed that threw me for a bit until I realized what was going on, is that the eye does not appear until you have started typing the password. It is not there when you first come to the sign in page.

Yes, I realise it's came with the new signing in page, but was trying to say that - pleased as I am for its introduction - it does not stand out very well (especially on a small screen). Also, as Gordon points out, you have to type the first character of your password before the eye symbol appears at all.
It is a little disappointing that after eventually getting round to implementing this much-requested feature, the engineers have still not make this option as clear than it might have been - or indeed is on other websites.
