I found a name in one of the indexes written as: Katerina Pawlowic .... this could be an aternate spelling .... v and w seems to be interchangeable depending of the person doing the writing. I would stay with my first reading: Pavlovecz

Hey Susan, I am going with the Pavlovecz spelling. Thank you for looking it over. Earlier this week I took Riley in just for a quick lookover and the vet was pleased with what she saw. We take her back this coming Wednesday and they will remove the stitches and will be able to be more definitive. So keeping fingers crossed.

I was wondering about Riley .. what breed of dog is Riley ... I'm guessing an irish setter or something close. What a great name!

Riley is a Shih Tzu. We had Golden Retrievers for years, so love the larger breeds as well.

Marriage Record of Jan Saukup & Kateriny Fischer

Well this find brought me a smile because it looks like 2 brothers married 2 sisters on the same day. I am hoping to get the parents names of both the bride and groom.
The mystery town of Kateriny Fischer that came up earlier was Wolnec (But nothing was able to be found). I believe the town is Volenice which is where this record comes from. The house #'s match for both the bride and groom (his town Novosedly #21) Her town Volenice #51.
I will also post what I think are their birth records for cross comparison

Having a lot of trouble with this one. If it weren't for you reading Kateriny's surname as Fischer I'd have missed it. I did go to the marriage record. In that I read Kateriny's mother's name as Kateriny Pokorny of Volenice
Again with the marriage record I have Jan Saukup age 20 b. 1795 House # 21; Kateriny House # 51 age 24 b. 1791.
In the marriage record I read Kateriny's father as possibly Janos, chalupnik (cottager) and mother as above Kateriny Pokorny of Volenice.
Then I read the record of Jakub and Anna .... and get the same info. Still not able to read the father's name, etc.
Back to the birth records: Jan Saukup b. 4 May 1795 (different from what you have as 10/26/1791); you might want to recheck that. it appears as if Jan's death was 22 June 1856 .. written in pencil; father: Waclaw Saukup, sedlak (farmer) mother: Anna daughter of ???Zenj..ka sedlak of House # 31 I will look at this again ...maybe I can make better sense out of it. Still having trouble matching up the parents names on birth records and the parents names on the marriage records.

Thanks for the reply Susan. First off I did write incorectly regarding Jan Saukup birth year.. it was 1795, his wife was in born in 1791. I'm thinking his day of birth was the 3rd and baptism the 4th. Can I ask what clued you to the birth month? I thought maybe it was May.
I have to start looking closer at those pencil notations, I had found Jan's death record..the hard way

Do you still concur that Kateriny and Janos (her father) last name is actually spelled Fischer? It just seems too American to me. I'll look for a marriage record of of Waclaw Saukup and Anna Zan???

While the handwriting wasn't the clearest, I thought it looked like May ... the previous entry was April and the next June.
You are correct and I didn't notice that .... baptisms were performed very swiftly ...birth one day .... baptized the next. In some cases if there was danger of the baby not surviving the midwife would baptize the baby. My experience with Hungarian records are that the people often celebrated their baptismal day rather than the actual birth ...perhaps as the occasion of their birth into the church. Re: Fischer ...I was going by what you had written. It does appear to be more of an American version of the name. Have you checked an index for the spelling? Looking closer at the marriage records it appears as if the name is spelled Fissezer. Similar situation for death records. The first is the date of death; the second is the date of burial which happened very quickly since they did not embalm. It is interesting how the records sometimes are completely in Czech; other times the months and numbers are English; and sometimes they are in latin or a mix of latin and another language.

In the marriage record for Kateriny's mother Anna, her maiden name might be Zemenova. In Czech script or Fraktur or Suetterlin e is written as our letter n. Does make it confusing until you get used to it. I check in an index and found that name. There was an Anna Zemenova born 8 July 1750 ... not saying this is her but it is a possibility. Think of the name Zemenova .... it would appear as Znmnenova .. a little confusing at first. So many n's and m's ....when several of the n's are really e's. I'm going to go back to the index for F to see if I can find a similar name.

I just that .... look at the index record that includes 1791. See Image 24 ...there are two records; One for Anna b. 1789; Next is Katerina b. 1791 and the surname looks Fisserova. This could be the two sisters

Hi Susan, I looked at the index birth records and agree, Fisserova is the name.
I am confused on one thing you brought up. Did you mean Jan Saukup's mother Anna? The Zemenova name you brought up I believe was maybe for Jan Saukup's mother who was married to Waclaw Saukup.
Kateriny Fisserova's mother was Kateriny Pokorney who was married to Janos Fisser (Fischer)
Going to spend some time looking for death records of the parents of Jan Saukup and Kateriny Fisserova.

Carl, Looks like I did mix names up. You have them connected to the correct spouses and their children. I was much concentrating on hlow the name is written. Good that you caught that error so your records don't get mixed. I think Pokorny is spelled without the 'e'. At least that is how I have seen it in other records. Good luck with the death records ... post if you need me again.

Hey Susan, Was hoping we would find out more on Riley today, but the vet wants to leave that eyelid stitched for another 3 weeks (UGGH). But she was encouraged on how he is doing overall.
I don't think that the Ann Zemenova b 7/8/1750 is the right Ann. Her son Jan was born in 1795.
I may jump back to searching for our very elusive Joseph Riedl from Bezdekov, I just don't understand why I can't find him...so frustrating!

It does seem unlikely for Anna b. 1750 had a son in 1795 ... she would have been 45 ... possible but unlikely. Poor doggie has to put up with that eyelid closed...might be less annoying for him than for you to see it. Re: Riedl ... just remember that not all records were digitized ... yet. Funny thing is that I think I remember looking in indexes for Bezdekov and could only find one Riedl. But where else to look. Maybe I'll another look this afternoon. Back if I find anything ... or maybe the correct Anna Z.

Well I have 30 different towns named Bezdekov, 19 of which are found in the Pilzen archives.
I was going back and looking at that baptism record of Joseph Riedl and Marie Metelec's oldest daughter Marie. I mentioned to you that they mispelled the name "Rydl" instead of "Riedl. But I got a whacky idea that maybe there name was possibly spelled Rydl in Bohemia. So as I will be going through the different towns named Bezdekov, I am going to also look for that spelling.
The other thing I started thinking about is the date of his arrival. 2 census records are saying 1885, another says 1887/1888. Based on his birth year being 1872, that would only make him 13, and likely be with some parents(s) or other older relative.
