https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/7665/261/1848/2022/40/0
I would like to get some transcription help regarding the parents and grandparents. This is what I know..
1) Born 9/10/1872 in Všechlapy
2) Parents are Frantish Metelec and Anna Podlahova House 14
3) I believe the father of Frantish Metelec is Andreje Metelec and his wife is Anny Lutovske
I would like to confirm the above and hopefully seek you help on
1) Anna (Marie's mother) maiden name.. is it Poolahy
or something else?
2) Is the mother of Anna Poolahy named Barbory Rosove?
Thanks for any help- Carl

Carl ... a lot of good questions re: spelling and writing. I think several of the words refer to occupations. For instance: Matey Polaty (sp ?) says gruntornik ... translates as farmer or owner of farm; I think the witness Jan Metelec while the word is slightly different I think it translates as farmer. Re: Barbara ... it does look like Rosove ...but there is Tan or Jan before it. Could be her father's name.
Anna daughter of Matey Polaty ??? and Barbara are from Smolce # 3. If you go to www.mapy.cz go to Bechynska Smolec to that section of the map and then search for # 3... you can see a photo of the house. Another portion is confusing ... two words prior to Tabor ... they are located in the District of Tabor; druhe translates as second; treti seems to translate as third. If you want to locate this village go to mapy.cz and type in Sudomerice u Bechyne (that is the former name of the vilage of Vsechlap .... If you go to Czech Research for Beginners she has a listing of Czech occupations. That is how I found farmer; cannot find the word for Andreje Metelec occupation.
So this entry seems straight forward; my interpretations of the spelling: Frantisek married son of Andreje Metelec # 6 and Anny Lutovske okre Bechy of Libyice and Anna married daughter of Matey Polaty, farmer, of Vsechlap # 14 and Barbara born Jan or Tam Rosovi Smolce # 3 Witnesses are Jan Metelec, farmer house # 6 then Trebecice You might get a better reading when you find Marie's siblings records. Hope this helps.

I found another good and pretty legible record... it is the marriage record of Frantish Metelec and Anna Podlahova. I think it goes even 1 generation back than the birth record. Anna Podlahova's father is Matej Podlaha. Here is the marriage record. When time allows can you take a look at it and see if anything becomes any clearer?
https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/7668/175/2107/1648/51/0
(marriage Sept. 5, 1869
This is a census record from 1869. Matej Podlaha, his wife Anna and other children. You will notice that Frantish Metelec and Anne Metelec (Podlahova) was living with Ann's father after marrying
https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/632202/28/2845/2159/33/0
Also look closely at the birth town of Matej wife Anna... it says Smolic. Perhaps her real name is Barbara and she goes by Anna. Maybe the marriage record above might clear it up

Will take a look later and will get back to you.

It looks like you have a gold mine of ancestors ...having a bit of trouble and am guessing you are too deciphering who goes with who.
Obviously Frantisek is married to Anna Podlova
Frantisek is the son of Ondrej Metelec married to Anny Lutovske
Anny Lutovske is the daughter of Vojtech Lutorskeho of Libeju and Marie Cinbukove of Zelice of Tabor
Ondrej Metelec is the son of Vojtech Metelec; Ondrej is married to Anny Lutovske of Libyice of Bechy
Anna Podlakova daugher of Mateje Podlaky, farmer of Vsechlap# 14 and Barbara Bosove or Rosove of Smolice # 3 - she is the daughter of June Bose of Smolice # 3 and Rosalie Tupe of Smolice # 12
Mateje Podlaky is the married son of Josepha Podlahy of Vsechlap # 14 and Katherine Cihakove of Vsechlap # 14
and Rosalie Tupe of Smolice # 12 Bechy okre
I suggest you print this out .... along with the first record of Marie Metelec's birth ...and the marriage record of Frantisek and Anna Podlakova
My brain is getting a bit of "twist" "confusion" but I think I managed to get the married people coupled together properly. Let's see if you come up with the same coupling.
I think it would be wise to print out both records .... the birth record seems to couple Frantisek son of Ondreje and anny Lutovske
and Anna daughter of Matej Podlahy ? and Barbara Rosovi or Bosovi
Good luck ... hope this helps a bit. You have to be the judge but I do think seeing both records together will help in clearing this up.

This helps a lot Susan! I have to call it a night, I'll have something to show you tomorrow. Thank you very much.

What a special treat when handwriting appears so clearly. Certainly looks like Podlaha is the correct spelling. What a find. On the marriage record with so many generations keep in mind that when I typed the surnames I might not have been careful enough. I was concentrating on linking the correct husbands and wives together ... well at least trying. Let me know what you think.

I'm disappointed because I posted a family tree of Marie Metelec (The names we have) earlier today and it showed up, and then the post completely disappeared.. not sure why. I attached a jpeg image of the tree, but something went wrong. I have some questions as well on the surnames, but most of them are right I think. This given name of Vojtech is throwing me off.. do you think they use a different name in Latin?
I did find a marriage record for Matej Podlaha and Barbora Bosove The house #'s match but the writing is awful. Can you take a look at it
and let me know if you would agree?

I'll take a look at it later. RE: the name Vojtech ... I have seen it before and do not know if there is any translation for it. I will check on the website I use for translations. It is better than a regular Cz - English dictionary. Rather than one word it gives a listing of words and expressions that use the word. I have to look it up again and give it to you. Sorry about your post disappearing .... an internet hissy fit I guess. Later I will check that next marriage record.... hope I can interpret the scribble ... I shouldn't call it that...but that is what it tends to look like.

You weren't kidding when you said the writing was awful ... handwriting looked so shakey. If you didn't have the previous marriage record giving all those names I would have been total stumped. My reading: 1844 Feb 6 marriage of Matey Podlaha b. 1818 age 26 son of Josepha house # 14 and Katherine Cihakove (again from the previous record) married to Barbara (Barbory) age 24 b. 1820 daughter of Jana B ???
and Rosalie surname ??? .... I think if you want any verification you must find their birth records. I think "we" were spoiled by the marriage record which included all those names and was so readable.

Just looked up Vojtech ...means warrior who find joy in combat. Apparently it is equivalent to the german name Adalbert.
I would interpret the name meaning a successful warrior ... a strong warrior .... rather than someone who find job in combat. I don't think anyone does. That Cz dictionary I mentioned. www.slovnik.cz

I'm including 3 links.. Marriage record of Jun (Jan) Bose and Rosalie Tupe (June 22, 1822)
https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/7666/71/2079/2108/47/0
Birth Record of Rosalie Tupe (Born 1792, House 12)
https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/7660/37/1921/1484/72/0
Birth Record of Jun(Jan) Bose (Born 1797, House 3
https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/7660/38/969/2397/136/0
Hopefully we can determine the names of Jan Bose and Rosalie Tupe's parents. One note there was another Birth record with a Jan Bose (1788) But I think the one above is the right Jan. Let me know your thoughts

Haven't forgotten you... will check them out later.

Still having trouble decphering ...while some looks clears it still is difficult to determine some letters. the first record I am at a total loss.
The second record to me reads Rosalie Tapa age 29 House # 12 ... father Vaclav ??? on the proper spelling mother Anna ????www.
The third record definitely reads as Jan Bos house # 3 b. 1788 father Vojtech mother: Marianna Valenta
There is a website I am using to try and determine the handwriting. It is a Suetterlin script which is similar to the German fractur. There is a website where you can type (using the keyboard they show) type or click on the letters the name and it shows it written in Suetterlin. It is especially good because it shows how the letters are linked and also how the letter s changes determined by where it appears ... in the middle of a name or word ... or at the end. Website: http://www.suetterlinschrift.de/Englisch/Write_your_name.htm
It might take skipping around the records to find additional siblings or just see how the letters are written in other names and words. I think in some case the name Bos is written as Boss. Hope this helps a bit. I am not familiar with these archives and don't know how to maneuver from records to records ... or find an index if it is available. An index might be the best clue.

OK Susan, thank for the info. Please feel free to wish me a happy birthday😀 I could not believe another record I ran into, hoping maybe you can take a look. In this archive they allow you to add bookmark notes, when you press this link look at the note. Supposedly Josofa Podlaha and Kateřina Čiháková Marriage record. I did not add this bookmark, someone else must have been researching them..I was amazed. But here is the problem. The handwriting is so bad I can not even see their names. Josef at one time lived in house 14, we had no info on Katerina house #.
It is possible the bookmark was added to the wrong page. When you go to the link see what you can find on that page... and if nothing go to the next page forward in time. There is a house 14 there as well. Just so you know, if you hit "Folder Tree" tab, that will take you to all records from that church.

No big hurry.... I'm going to be eating birthday cake🎂
0 -
By all means Happy Birthday .... enjoy that cake! Hope it has real butter cream icing. My twin brother and I just celebrated my birthday on August 25th and enjoyed a Red Velvet Cake. Not sure he had cake ... he lives in Las Vegas and I live in New York. Birthday cake ...it is the best .... good thing I don't get it often. I'll take a look at the link ... guess you were spoiled with that record with so many names and dates ... Might be worth the trouble to look up some of the names on familysearch.org. If someone else bookmarked the record they may have created a family tree ... maybe they had better luck with reading. Back later.

Yep, I'm with you on real butter cream! I was born in Buffalo, NY lived there until age 9, than on to the midwest. Now live near Augusta GA. I'm almost convinced now, once you follow the link, it is on the next page (106), first entry. Now back for a second piece of cake.

It's a bit late but I took another look. I still think the record is the first one on page 105. I can clearly see the Josepha ... and maybe Katerina. And it appears that her father's surname is Czikova (putting the z in the name is typical for the time when the Magyars insisted on that type of spelling. When my Hungarian grandparents came through Ellis Island the name was spelled Szander but they continued to use the German spelling of Sander. I took a look at the folder tab and items came up ... looked at the second one labeled index for B D births and deaths. Looked at the page for B's ... looks like the correct spelling is Boss. Will take another look maybe tomorrow. That writing is so difficult to decipher. The writing in the index seems to be easier to read. Just need patience.

Ugggh.. I've been looking at these 2 Marriage records for way too long, and I know you have too! There is a couple things that led me to believe it was the entry on image 106.
-if you look at the 3rd column from the right (I think its the witnesses), read the first name after the crosses I think it says Jakob Podlaha (maybe Josefs brother)
-The second clue I was looking at on image 106 is that the house # was 14 and in Všechlapy, If you look at the image on 105, the address seems to be #3, but look at the name of
the town above the house address for the groom. It looks like it is a town different than Všechlapy.
Take a final look at the 2 records, give me your thoughts. If you still believe its the record on 105, I have a couple questions
-What town is the groom from?
-Can you make out any names of the grooms parents?
-What age do you think the bride is?
-I know you mentioned the brides father was Josefa Czikova, did they give names of the brides mother?
I hope your day going good, getting ready to watch my beloved Chicago Bears play in a couple hours.

I am staying with page 105 ... I thought I saw house # 3 but don't see it now. groom is definitely Josef , age 21 , b. 1891,son of deceased... that is what that cross means ... cannot read one word ... think syn of Matey Podlaha of ??? Bride is: Katerina, age 16, b. 1796, House # 13, daughter of deceased Josefa Czihacova ... if there is a mother's name it starts with M (at a stretch it could be Mary Anna or Magdalena, and daughter of Matey ???
Looking at page 106 the house # is 14 ...but the grooms's might be Tomas son of Jakub. I do see the witness of Jakob Podlaha in the third column but he could be a witness for a neighbor's wedding.
Enjoy the day .... and the game ... best wishes for your "team".

OK that's what I'm going with, can you tell what the towns name is for the groom? The only way I could read a 3 for that house # is tilt my head, its like they wrote it on a steep angle.
I never want to see this record again! Have a good day Susan

Not lot of luck here ...although I found a record on page 104 for a Jacob Podlaha age 23 married to a Marie Cihak age 22
No information under her name. Some info in the next column which I cannot read. Under Jacob it looks like the name of a town
similar to that for Joseph. Clearly says House # 3 .... town looks like Bonhowie or Bonhofic ... the letters almost look clear but I cannot find anything that resembles it. Could start with the letter L. Looked in another site jewishgen.org where you can type in the name of a villlage ... it uses a fuzzy search engine. Once you find the town you can find other towns within a ten mile radius No luck there either ... tried Sudomerice u Bechnye ...also Vsechlapy .... will look again later if I get any brainstorm ideas.

Hey Susan, lets call it a wrap on this, don't put anymore effort. We are really as far back as the records go. I hope you enjoy your Sunday, and as always, I sure appreciate your help!

Sounds like a good idea ... those letters are not going decipher themselves. But enough squinching for a while.
Enjoy the game ... hope your team wins.

Just one more comment. It has been driving me crazy about that town name. I think I found it while searching through villages in the Tabor region. Borkovice. It appears to be close to Sudomerice u Bechyne ... aka as Vschlapy. You can see this at www.mapy.cz although it is just shown as an area ... but the village name appears in the right margin. Okay ... now I can rest ...smile!

Just went there and looked at some birth indexes 1785-1799 in Borkovice, but didn't see any Podlaha"s
This is where I went https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/3329/106/440/545/123/0
Antonia Jirsa married a man named Joseph Petrlik in Chicago. I've been doing some searching for him and have been striking out. I've got some conflicting clues on his birthplace.. Joseph was born 3/18/1880
1) Míchov, South Moravia, Czech
2 )Pisek, Okres Plzeň-sever, Plzen
3) and this one. Any way to find this town. Not sure what those 3 o's mean or where this place could be.
Let me know your thoughts- Carl
0 -
Not sure about this but will continue looking. I did find records at Ellis Island
Josef Petrlik age 20 from Michov or Mickov -- Ellis Island recorder spelled it Michov born about 1879-80 arriving June 1900 going to Chicago. There are several Petrlik's from the same village. Will look more later. Don't understand Hradnik as I cannot find a location by that name .. yet I plugged it into Ellis Island and nothing came up.
0 -
Just a note ... I do not know what that three o's stand for ... I have seen Hradnik on mapy.cz ....could he have been married in one of these locations
0 -
Just found another town: Mnichovo Hradisto in Central Bohemia ... you can find it at mapy.cz Have not looked at genteam.at
That could explain the ooo's it could just be the handwriting of the recorder. I put my money on this one.
0 -
Not sure where my last comment went. But I believe the town is Mnichovo Hradisto in Central Bohemia, Praha archives

Good Morning Susan, He was married in Chicago.
I went to that town name Mnichovo Hradisto and found the
church records and scanned about 8 years of a very neatly written birth index and didn't see one name of Petrlik, so I dont believe it is this town. Just curious when you were checking Michov, was it the Levotice church records? (michov birth records for his time period are found in Levotice 482 Img 171-188
I do have that passenger list, I also have a WW2 registration card that also says Michov. But his find a grave says Pisek, Okres Plzeň-sever, Plzeňský (Plzen), Czech Republic.
