My tags are all messed up with the incorrect names. I originally typed in the correct names and now I have to go to each memory individually and retag with the correct name. Could you please help?

    This is only happening with my mom, dad and myself. Maybe I did an edit on a batch? My pid is 9 (removed for privacy) my dad's is LN8N-N2H and my mother's is KWZY-W85

    @Kay Adamson

    I cannot get into your account using your PID because you are a living person; therefore, you are a "Private Person." Here's a help article that may help you remove incorrect tags and add the correct ones. https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-edit-or-delete-person-tags-in-memories If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

    @Kay Adamson dancingintherain shared a great link and is correct about the PID of a living person. We are always here to help if you need more questions answered. Thanks for sharing in the community.

    How to Fix Incorrect Tags

    1. Click Memories at the top menu and select Gallery.
    2. Click the photo or document with the wrong tag.
    3. Click the i (info) icon on the right side of the memory or select the person from the "People in this Photo" list.
    4. Click the gear icon next to the incorrect name.
    5. Select Delete or remove the tag.
    6. Create a new, correct tag by typing the proper name and attaching it to the correct person in the Family Tree.

    @Kay Adamson

    Along with the instructions above, when you click the gear icon for each tag, you will also see a pencil icon so you can edit the "Tag Name."

    But your situation might be a bit more complicated, and the tag names might consistently be messed-up if, in the past, you gave two individuals the same tag. This is a common problem with tags in Memories. See below for a link to another discussion where the Community discusses this problem. I put my specific notes below the link….

    Thank you for posting some examples. And for sharing your feedback. Unfortunately, you are correct. You are experiencing a common problem without a good solution—as you have discovered.

    I think it is important to clarify one point. Tagging and tag names get very messy WHEN you click several names for one tag (which, unfortunately the system lets you do, but which you should never do. As you already described). It is always best to create a tag box and select only one person.

    But most of us in our early work with tags probably did select several people for one tag, and then that tag name gets messy and multiple individuals become attached to one tag name, etc.

    I truly wish there were an easy fix for this, but there currently is not. In simple situations you can try to detach the wrong person from the tag first rather than starting with deleting all tags (find the tag in the right side bar, click the gear next to the tag, detach the wrong personas). You also have the option to edit the tag names, but that won’t help remove all the people incorrectly attached to that tag. I have found that most of mine are more challenging. And I, too, have had to delete the majority of them.

    I do want to assure everyone that FS is aware of this tagging problem . They are looking at many different solutions for how to make tagging better.

    I will be sure to share your concern about not having enough Help Information regarding tagging.

    Oh là là, plus de 1 100 souvenirs à corriger, je comprends vraiment votre frustration. 😟 Devoir reprendre chaque souvenir un par un doit être très décourageant.

    Je trouve votre idée d’un « éditeur de tags » vraiment pertinente. Pouvoir corriger un persona ou plusieurs identifications directement à la source, puis appliquer la correction à tous les souvenirs concernés, ferait gagner énormément de temps.

    Je ne connais malheureusement pas encore de méthode plus rapide, mais j’espère que quelqu’un ici pourra partager une solution ou une documentation officielle. En attendant, merci d’avoir expliqué votre expérience aussi clairement : cela peut certainement aider d’autres personnes qui rencontrent le même problème.

    @Kay Adamson @Davidebantu the best way to suggest system enhancements is to fill in the Suggest an Idea form (it drives a specific process within FamilySearch, which suggestions made here in the main Community area cannot).

    If you do Suggest an Idea, be careful to keep a local copy of the form content, as you will not have access to it post submission.
