I'm having tagging issues between written and photo memories.
I figured out (the hard way) that if you tag more than one person at a time in a document and/or written story, it creates a back-end "persona" that includes everyone in the tag you created. It doesn't give you an option to name that tag, but does it for you on the back-end. You can change that name later, but it will mess up everything you've already tagged.
I have to fix over 1,100 memories that now have broken tags. It would be much easier if there was some sort of "tag editor" where you could edit the tags on the back-end and have it fix them all at once. As it is right now (as far as I've been able to find in my research), every memory has to be fixed one at a time. The fix is to remove all tags and then recreate them.
In the case of living people, I've had to create a duplicate record, tag that record in the photo, then merge it with the original in order to fix the corrupt persona.
There has to be documentation on this somewhere, because CoPilot was able to help me figure out a fix, but I can't find it to read more and see if there's anything else I can do to make this faster. It's going to take me weeks to fix all of this.
Does anyone else have any ideas for a faster fix?

@Abi Studer Could you please provide a specific example of the problem you're describing? It would help to provide a link to a specific memory like this:

It will need to be a public memory with tags that are for deceased persons. And then describe which tag(s) you see as problematic.
That will help other Community members better understand exactly what the problem is and perhaps provide a more efficient process for fixing it.

It affects living people more than deceased ones. I'm still trying to see if I can find one of the ones that has two deceased people (my grandparents) listed in one tag. Here's a screenshot of an example of one of the memories that shows both a deceased person and a living one in the same tag:
Notice that the tag's name is "Dennis Walter King" (my grandfather), and he's included in the tag, but so is my living aunt.
When I try to tag my aunt in new things, it brings in this full tag, with both of them.
I ran the issue through a couple of LLMs and the only fix that I've been able to find is to follow these steps in this order:
- Create a duplicate of the living person
- Delete the tag on the memory
- Retag the deceased person
- Retag the duplicate of the living person
- Merge the duplicate of the living person into the original of the living person.
That seemed to work at first, but since this tag is on so many of my memories, it keeps popping back up again. I'm having to go through over 1,000 memories that I've uploaded and delete all of the tags and start over.
I think the cause was this: I have my grandparents' journals and have been typing them in as Stories, including a scanned image. Then I tag the people they've mentioned in the entries. When I was tagging people, I was checking all of their boxes at once. I think that's what created these multi-people tags.
I understand why checking multiple boxes is an option - it's for all of the living people who are in more than one tree.
If FamilySearch gave me access to my 'list of tags' that I could edit, that would be so much more helpful. I understand why that's not a generally accessible option (what a nightmare that could turn into).
As it is right now, there should be some sort of warning when you're tagging people that only one person should be tagged at a time - you can tag multiple instances of that one person, but it should only be one person. They should also give access to name the tag up front instead of only after you've hit the "Tag Selected" button.
I'm about halfway through deleting all of the tags I have in there so I can start clean. What a mess it has been.
