A source is correctly attached to all profiles, but the record hints remain

This relates to one specific source in the Cook Islands, Public Records, 1846-2022 collection (a death record). The principal is Brian Ensor, and it names his parents Margaret Joyce Locke and father Melbourne Charles Ensor.

The source is correctly attached to the three profiles but each profile still has a record hint attached to it.

If I go to each of the profiles' source tabs and REVIEW ATTACHMENTS, the source linker opens and shows the attachments exactly as expected.

Problem 1

Then I go to the hint in the Research Help section of the profile and click REVIEW & ATTACH. This works as expected for Brian's hint (https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/linker?ark=/ark:/61903/1:1:X493-CR4W&id=GRF7-4YG&hinting=/tree/person/details/GRF7-4YG):

However, for the parents' hints, the source linker is incorrectly aligning the left and right panels. For Margaret's hint (https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/linker?ark=/ark:/61903/1:1:X493-CR4W&id=LJB7-5PF&hinting=/tree/person/details/LJB7-5PF), this is what I see:

and for Melbourne's hint (https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/linker?ark=/ark:/61903/1:1:X493-CR4W&id=KWRR-GMF&hinting=/tree/person/details/KWRR-GMF):

I have tried detaching the source from all three profiles and reattaching it, but that makes no difference

Problem 2

The hints can't be made to go away.

  • Using NOT A MATCH on the results is a message "We have received your feedback…" but the hint remains on the profile.
  • Using SHOW ALL in the Research Help section, then DISMISS MATCH results in the hint being transferred to the Dismissed Helps list.

Neither of these two outcomes is appropriate. When a source is attached, the hint is supposed to disappear completely from view.

I have browsed through the 52 pages of images (5 sources per image) in an attempt to find another example, but there aren't any other attached sources.

    There is clearly something wrong in the underlying data that we users cannot fix. In this image there is a glaring error:

    The record that opens should be "Melbourne Charles Ensore as mentioned in record for ….." (or whatever the current wording would be) and be a record for Melbourne, not this record for Brian. Something has gotten corrupted in creation of the hint. Probably the only fix is for the hint to be force deleted from the system. Someone has to have high enough level access to the system to do this.

    I don't see anything wrong with visible indexing of the image although I guess the problem could also be in the index itself.

    The hint that I see does not match @Gordon Collett's screen snip.

    Possibly a difference between Gordon's church account and my public one.

    I am looking on the hint on Melbourne‘s page while you are looking hint on Brian‘s page.

    @sc woz Thank you. I have just stumbled across another instance of this behaviour. It is from the same collection. This time it is for a marriage registration, and the hints appear against the groom's parents, but not against the bride's parents. I haven't attempted to attach the source.

    • The record opens in the source linker with the left and right panels generationally-misaligned.
    • When the hint is selected in the profile's Research Helps section, the name in the heading of the Record Information panel is not the name of the profile.

    This is the same sort of behaviour as occurs in the original example.

    Because the marriage took place less than 20 years ago, the bride and groom are not in the Family Tree. They are likely still living, so I am not sharing details here.

    Has this been fixed? This morning, I restarted my computer (which I do each morning), and I cannot reproduce any of the problems. The "stuck" hints from my original example have disappeared and the attached sources open properly in the source linker. The hints for my second example (the marriage) now also display the correct information in the Record Information.

    There was also another aspect to this issue that I had not previously investigated enough to report here. Normally, when I look at the images of this kind of source in the image viewer, the entries of each name entry in the Names list may have an icon:

    • a paper clip, indicating that the record has outstanding hints related to some profiles;
    • a paper clip attached to a page, indicating that the record is already attached to a profile;
    • otherwise, no icon.

    As I commented above with regard to my original example, I could not find any records in the image viewer with such icons. The same applied to the specific image for my second example; the groom's parents had no icon in the Names list. Today, all that has changed. There are now many "hint" icons in the image viewer's name lists for the film that contains the death records of my first example. For the film of the marriage records, there are also hint icons for all four of the parents which were not there yesterday. There are now also hints attached to the profiles of the bride's parents which were not there yesterday.

    I have just attached the outstanding hints for the parents in the marriage case, and the hints disappeared as I expected. So, normal service appears to have resumed.
