How to identify a month name?
In a German Family Table found at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS73-C9NG-C?cc=3015626&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQPP5-SDPR the birthdate of Sebastian Bruden (found on line 6, 6th box from the left) is given as 12 Martins 1789. Can anyone tell me what month "Martins" represents and why?

The image is not available with a public account like mine, but I'm basically certain that what it actually says is Martius, which is March.

Before 1792, you're dealing with Julian dates. There were 10 named months in the Julian calendar, instead of the 12 we know in the Gregorian calendar.
The months bore the names Martius, Aprilis, Maius, Juniius, Quintilis,
Sextilis, September, October, November, and December—the last six names
correspond to the Latin words for the numbers 5 through 10.1 -
Thanks to both of you. Looking at the original record I can see that "Martius" is no doubt the correct reading and should be translated as March.

The Julian calendar had 12 months. The others are Ianuarius and Februarius. The Roman calendar had ten, but that dates to well before a genealogical time frame.
