Street name USER ERROR
I have twice inadvertantly deleted the street that I have assigned to multiple families. It happens when working on a PC with mouse and keyboard. I don't know what I am doing, but it seems to be rather easy to do. I recreate the streetname for the next households, but It makes me wonder what happened to the records with the street was assigned.
Does anyone know what I am doing so that I can keep from deleting a street that has been assigned to households?

I am also having trouble with street names today. I am not deleting them, but they are not saving. I get an error "Unable to Save Changes" and need to refresh or cancel. Refresh takes you back a page, but nothing else. I hit cancel then Next and it moves forward. I'm not sure that they are saving as they frequently disappear.
I wonder if you are having the same issue.

I think there is a problem with the system. I've had problems saving using both FireFox and Chrome.
Submit Feedback issues (Feedback is vertical on the left side of the screen) on the Main Census page so this gets to the Engineers.

@TraceyThompson I am having the unable to save changes problem now. Prior to this i have had two issues where i bring the pointer up to where the name was on the list of steet names, the page refreshes and the street name disappears.
I think it is something i am doing not a system problem.
Too bad the system was choosing not to save all day yesterday and so far today, but then i am wondering if saving does anything as i keep getting the same pages over and over again without any of the surnames corrected or street names typed in. Since the name check was so poorly done in the county i am working on there are lots of corrections. I have personally changed over 1000 surnames in family review, and generally i am not going after names that could possibly be wrong unless I personally know the family but rather the ones that could not possibly be right!

@vickyg2003, @MinnWisRoots, @TraceyThompson, the engineers are aware of this issue of unable to save and we have been instructed to click on the "Cancel" and keep reviewing the family. Thank you for hanging in there!

Cancel works most of the time for the street name, but it never works when you have a household continued on the next page.

For all of you in this thread, the Unable to Save Changes issue has been resolved. I tested the waters and have no problem now with the message coming up. Have a wonderful day!!

The unable to save a household continued on the next page has not been fixed for Montana. The page the error occurred on was ED 45-15, sheets 21 and 22.

It happened again. E 24th St was on the list. I assigned it to the Essink Family, and now when I go to add the Por family, the street name is gone from the pick list. This is happening to me quite often and makes me feel like my work is getting lost.

As I am becoming more and more aware of this, I am seeing names dropping off the list quite often, its only when I need the street name again that I've been noticing it, but it is happening quite a bit.

@vickyg2003, I'm sorry, but what state are you working in when you see this issue? I want to see if it happens to me in that state. I have been gone for a few days and trying to get my brain around everything again. 🤔 Let me know if you are still having this issue, also. Thanks.

It was happening in Michigan,I haven't noticed it happening lately, but when the list of streets is long and a street in the list goes missing, its hard to see.
But speaking of getting your head around things again, I am really wondering what exactly IS the family review process. Do those missing streets send the sheet back into the review process because they may not match the previous transcriber if they are in a different order?
This morning I processed Holland,Ottawa, Michigan ED 70-23 Page 15 for the FOURTH TIME.
The reason I remember this sheet is I used to live next door to Mrs Huyser. The Huyser family was transcribed as HELPER and the extended family the Hop and Mapyens living in the household were also transcribed incorrectly Hap for Hop and something else in the middle of Mapyens. The O in Hop could easily have been an A if you didn't KNOW the people, but Huyser didn't look anything like Helper, although I could see how the YS combination could be a P but then you have to create an EL out of a U and the first part of a Y, .... The whole page was poorly transcribed, if I recall correctly it started out with EVERY surname being wrong.
I have corrected every household's surname on that page 3 times. Today when I got it for the 4th time, Helpers Hops and Mapyens now had the correct name, but all of the other surnames I had previously offered as corrections are still poorly transcribed and don't match what is written on the page.
If I understood the process a little better perhaps I wouldn't feel so frustrated.

@vickyg2003, the missing streets would not be sending the page back into the review process. The only time a page should go back for reviewing is if names haven't been reviewed yet. Thank you for the ED! We are going to look at it and see what is going on! Duplicate page seems to be plausible, but four times?? Thank you!

For FAMILY REVIEW I have been concentrating on my hometown that back in 1950 had a population of 15,000. I have reviewed 5,232 families in that community. If the average family size is 3, I should have seen just about everybody by now but I have not. Instead I have seen 100's of pages multiple times on Family Review, a few 3 times, the HUYSER family was unique because this is the first time any of the sheets I reproccessed came through correctly transcribed.
This time I didn't get to touch the Huyser family, because they had already been saved by someone else who had not finished the sheet, when I looked to see if there was a problem that made the previous reviewer quit, I saw the HUYSER family correctly transcribed and saved, which brings me back to the 4th of July weekend when we were all getting that Everything has been Saved message somewhere on the page. We could CANCEL or REFRESH.
If the message hit on a family down the sheet if I hit REFRESH only the family I couldn't save was saved the ones that had saved higher on the sheet all were all unsaved and had to be reprocessed. It makes this totally frustrating.

@vickyg2003, please report this issue just as you have told me. Thank you!

I reported this issue in Feedback.
I just did one of the kind that keeps coming back, the ones where there a multiple surnames to be corrected.
Holland, Ottawa, Michigan ED 70-21 page 11.
Corrected
Exa to Exo
Sloathack to Sloothaak
Schult to Schutt (hard to read)
Weissena to Wiersema
Haneck to Haveck (hard to read)
The pages that come back usually are this kind where there are multiple surnames, or ones that I reported an error on that come back to bother me.

@vickyg2003, thank you for reporting that. This issue is being investigated.

@vickyg2003 and @AndLinda
Same thing happened to me yesterday in Illinois. Page repeated 3 times with no corrections being made.
Reported multiple feedback issues on page.
Also reported to Census main page Feedback.
Finally just gave up yesterday and working on regular indexing today until I see an Census update notice.

Holland, Ottawa, Michigan. ED 70-21 page 24, 4th attempt
this page started with a surname carryover. Issue where the cramer families and the Mokma family have the same surname.
I reported this page and it came back with the Surname carryover fixed but the page out of order
I got it again with the pages still out of order and reported it again
i just got it back again with the pages in the right order but the surname carryover issue is back!

Make that 5 Times, i just got this page for the fifth time, this time the surname carryover is fixed again but the page is out of order again!!!! So i can’t process the family because the daughter cheryl is on page 25, but as you can see by the picture the continuation of the Mokma family points to the top of the current page.
I have the feeling I am spinning my wheels. The pages should still be in NAME REVIEW, instead we get to spend 20 minutes reprocessing sheets where the Apartment numbers are all filled with garbage, the streetnames all need to be reenterd, and the names all need to be corrected.

I had Disappearing Street Names on three sheets in a row and I now have some insight.
If the sheet pops up with a Duplicate street names on the list, there is a slow running script that consolidates the list. That script is a lot slower than I am and it can cause the whole list to disappear even if I just created the street with a write-in and I am on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th household on the sheet.

So glad you have that knowledge!!!

First, I totally understand your frustration with the problems you are having since I have experienced many of them myself.
It does seem, however, that you expect (and, I apologize if I am wrong) a quick fix to your Feedback requests. Unfortunately, due to the size of this project and the high volume of requests that rarely happens. Even more so now (see excerpt from recent project update).
When nothing saves, go to the old computer standbys: Exit the program, Clear cookies, Restart computer; Try another brower; Work on regular Indexing projects; Wait a few hours and try again.

. . .
Moving the census into publication sooner allows us to transition it into its next phase where we can have a better experience editing and fixing all the problems we saw that the volunteer tool wasn't sophisticated enough to let us fix. The current experience with the 1950 review will end in September, but we will be continuing to improve the census after it is published. Publication will allow more freedom to go into the records and improve what is important to each of us.
The exciting part is what computer-generated indexes open up for us - the ability to publish billions of records that would otherwise take decades to index. They may be of lower quality than what we see with general web indexing, but we will have the opportunity to review and improve those indexes continually. This shows how vitally important that contributors are and will continue to be to this entire process.
If the engineers had to keep fixing the current 1950 review tool for our project, they couldn't get to finishing the new editing tool that will enable this "review and improve" model for ALL of our records. This transition opens up more possibilities for us all.

I felt kind of bad about complaining, but here it goes again. I've been working on Virginia Park, Ottawa, Michigan for the past 3 days and this is the 4th time I have processed this page, correcting the names, house numbers street names .... There is nothing unusual about this page except that it is loaded with transcription errors. There are NO "surname unavailables" problems, NO unusual houshold groupings, and NO page out of order situation, nothing but poor transcription of very common names for the community. It isn't until I get down to near the bottom of the page and see an old family friend Wendel Rooks living on Dillcrest instead of Hillcrest that I realize I've processed the page 4 times in rapid succession. A few of the names have been fixed, but for the most part it is still has several remaining trascription errors, and the house numbers and apartment numbers are still bad, and Hillcrest is still Dillcrest and people are still born in Mid instead of Mich.
While I don't expect a "quick fix" I would like to think that I am making a contribution, but really Transcribing the page over and over makes me yearn for some kind of fix.

@vickyg2003, I'm am so sorry for this frustration!! Did you submit this while on the page so the engineers can get the URL? I am assuming you are submitting on Report a Problem while also posting here. You are making a wonderful contribution. Engineers are aware, but keep submitting while on the page so they get the URL.
Thank you so much!
