1950 Census

I am having the same problem. I can attach the 1950 Census to several members of the same family but randomly one person will come up with that error code. I have tried to reload my page and come back to it, but it doesn't help. This has happened several different times with different people and families. Seems like there might some bug in the system.

When you are attaching sources do not attach the ( Residence 1949 ) if there is not a place mentioned. ( ie town, county, state) That is what causes the ( error linking to source ).

@Quint Hurst I didn’t realize that would cause an error. I believe another condition will also cause an error but I wasn’t working with the 1950 census, I was working with one in the 1800s. A family group had two records for a son Frank, one with no MI and one with H. I determined that in fact these were 2 men born the same year and place with the same name ( other than the MI). I was able to sort out Frank H was the one who did not belong in the family group and had different parents. However, when I tried to add a census to Frank that was already attached to Frank H incorrectly, I got an error until I detached the source from Frank H. I never considered whether a location was there or not, so I think this was a different error.

I talked with familysearch support. This is a known error with 1950 census. Engineers are working on this.
So there is nothing we can do at the present

The one thing that you can do now which may be considered as a work around is to not add residence 1949 if no place is indicated.

Quint - Where do you see a 1949 residence on a 1950 census?

@Jon W. Thomas , the 1949 residence will only show if the individual was one of the 6 persons per census page that was asked if they lived in the same house one year ago and they answered yes. Then on source linker the 1949 residence Date will show but without a Place which causes the error to appear when trying to attach the source.

Sadly, it seems that the 1949 residence also shows up if one of the sample people answers NO, as I see with my father.
