Name Review
OK this is happening all the time now - sometimes the blue highlighter line is "in between the 2 names", and it is obvious the name it should be on - because it has been doing every line - but it wants to skip a row. So then I try to correct it - but it means I will have to correct the whole page. What to do?

Several things that could be fixed [I think]
- When you're reviewing names and it jumps to a new page that starts with blank surnames, there's no way to go back to the previous page to see what the surname is so it can be filled in.
- Sometimes because the blue highlighter isn't aligned correctly, once you start correcting names, you end up leaving a line out with no way to correct it - that's not good.
- Is there some way we can add to the suffix field if the computer hasn't noticed a suffix? I've been putting it into the name field.
- What are we supposed to do with all the "not at home" or "vacant" lines? I've been blanking out all the info or just leaving a dash in the field.
- There's no way to go to a previous page if you realize you made a mistake on the previous entry once you're on the next page - that makes work for folks later on, or leaves errors that could be fixed now.

@AmyBreedlove, thank you so much for all of your numbered items! This makes it easy to go through.
- With reviewing names and it goes to a new page with the blank surname, it is assumed that the surname is the same as the last name on the previous page or the head of the household. In this case on the name review, mark it as correct. It will be taken care of in review families.
- If the highlighter isn't aligned correctly, such as the person who started this thread stated, this needs to be reported by going to "Transcription error". If a name is left out and no way to correct it, it would be because it has already been reviewed. Review Families will be able to correct that name.
- The suffix should not be put in the name field. If the computer doesn't highlight it to mark as correct, it will be included in review families as there is a place for the suffix there.
- Any lines that have "Not at home" or "vacant", you click on "Not a Person" that is on the bottom right of the page. I might add, if you are working on your phone reviewing names, you would click on the little flag that is right above "Unsure". It is the same to report the incorrect highlights on your phone.
- Being able to go to the previous page is not possible. You can only go back to fix mistakes while you are still on the same page. There have been quite a few people wanting to be able to have this option. You are welcome to send in Feedback by going to the website landing page for 1950 census and click on Feedback on the left side of the page.
We hope that we have answered your questions to your satisfaction. If we have, could I ask you to please indicate by clicking on the "Yes" under this post? If you need more clarification, I am happy to help.

AndLinda In #2 that you answered, I am wondering if it applies to a situation I have just encountered where the highlighted area is skipping a first or last name or maybe a single or multiple rows of names. I have seen it do a bit of everything. Is this a situation where the names will get corrected in Family Review? or do these situations warrant reporting as Transcription Errors.

@librareeladee, the names will get corrected in Family Review. It is also the possibility that the name it is skipping has already been reviewed. People go in to review names and maybe get the first name reviewed and need to stop and back out. So the last name would be picked up by another reviewer. So just because it skips several rows doesn't mean they haven't been reviewed already.
Just keep reviewing and any missed will be picked up by another reviewer. Bottom line is we just do our best. We sure appreciate your willingness to make the records correct! Keep up the great work!
