Hi, a relative's Event Place differs from the Event Place (original) by hundreds of miles; is there a way that I can correct this?

Thank you :)

The record to which you refer may not have Edit option for Event Place - or maybe Edit is not available at all? If Edit is not available (usually in the header above the record index has an Edit button) - no there isn't a way to correct that index. You can make a note in the record attachment to the person in Tree. If Edit: Event Place becomes available in the future - you could then go in and change that.

@CiaranParnell, In answer to your last question - no, the ability to edit the incorrect Event Place is not available for this collection (i.e., the Ireland Census, 1911).

As has been suggested, you have found one of the many location errors that has been generated by a standardization process used by FamilySearch. The key to detecting this auto-standardization error is the presence of both an Event Place (Original) and an Event Place that identify two different places. In the example that you've provided, the original points to County Limerick, while the other points to County Monaghan.

This is an issue that can be resolved by the engineers. I will forward this issues so that it can be reviewed and resolved by the engineers. Because of the large number of similar problems being worked by the engineers, I cannot suggest when the problem will be fixed.

thank you so much for the quick reply :)

The 'edit' option is greyed out, so I cannot amend the incorrect FamilySearch Event Place.

The original 1911 Census record is correct but I will have to skip adding this Family Tree Match even though it is my great grandfather.

    Thank you :)

The incorrect place in the index does not mean you couldn't go ahead and attach it, come back later when it is editable and make that change. But you definitely would want to note the needed correction so when it does become available you would remember. Or who knows - maybe some other process will make the change for you and you won't have to change the attachment at all.

Hi, Is there any way I can edit this location to remove the incorrect Event Place of Cashlan ? The Original Event Place of Cash's Lane, Limerick is the correct one.

Cashlan is 250km from Limerick, and all people present in the household are incorrectly assigned to the wrong place.

    Thank you.

    Hello all :)

I wonder if I could get the incorrect Event Place on the record below amended please ?

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QYV5-2MN2

The Event Place (Original) of Cash's Lane is correct, but the Event Place of Cashlan is incorrect.

    Thank you,

    Ciaran.

    Ciaran,

You are correct. The original record from National Archives Ireland has the correct location:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Limerick_No__2_Urban/Cashs_Lane/626330/

The error appears to have been introduced by FamilySearch's AI/automated place changes.

It seems like FamilySearch should be able to change the routines to not change from original counties...
