Why do some of the Get Involved activities look different than traditional indexing?
The Get Involved experience includes many different kinds of activities, including indexing. New technologies have been incorporate, including computers indexing the records first. Then, the names and other information are looked at by human reviewers and corrected, if needed.
You can view a knowledge article (KA) with name review project instructions here or a video here.
On the Get Involved web page or app, you can quickly review names (or other identified information) from computer-indexed records by indicating if the indexed name is correct or correcting it.
You can choose record collections to review that you are interested in. In the forthcoming 1950 U.S. census that will be computer-indexed and available to review using the Get Involved app, you will get to choose households in a chosen location that you want to review. (Learn more about how the 1950 U.S. census will be indexed here.)

This information needs to be available at the starting point of the Get Involved activities. It is very confusing to arrive at the starting point and just launch into the activity without proper orientation on what is expected and how to do it.

You probably should not be calling these "Indexing projects" in Get Involved if we are not following Indexing Guidelines. These are Review AI projects. Big difference, especially since there are no rules to follow.

Thank you for your feedback, @Melissa S Himes, I have modified some of the wording.

I also do not like the results of computer indexed records. And I do not enjoy the 'Get Involved' reviews. Just let people do the indexing, not computers. The records I reviewed I would do differently if I were indexing/reviewing the record directly instead of after a computer worked on it. For example in a will/court record the same name is presented several times, but it is difficult to compare all of them if the screen is fixed on one location. Once I hit a back button thinking that it would take me to a previous page and I got dumped out of it entirely. Please give it up. Let's go back to just people.
There's no place to make comments on corrections made, only pre-written comments to choose from which don't always fit. If this is the way indexing is going, I'm probably not going to sacrifice my time for it. I thought we--sons and daughters of Heavenly Father-- are to gather Israel, not AI. I also don't feel the spirit of the work the same. I've very disappointed in the direction this is going.

We can click on Other in the transcription error button link. Then we can explain the issue.
I do understand your frustration. I feel some myself but I know that this is a work in progress and is under the hand of God. It is not going to be perfect at first. Probably never perfect but it will be good. Even excellent. I am looking forward to all those records in the Granite Mountain being indexed and reviewed. For us to do it without the help of AI would take longer than I have left to live but with AI it is possible to have it done. Maybe I will even get those brick walls torn down in my lifetime! We need to give it a chance. In the meantime regular indexing is not going away anytime soon if ever. Keep up your good work! Please! We need you.

Achei maravilhoso os computadores nos ajudar na indexação. São muitos documentos a serem indexados e dessa forma só corrigimos o que o computador não faz corretamente. Há pessoas que começa a indexar e desistem. Precisamos acelerar nos últimos dias. A ideia é ótima parabéns!
