@airland I already took care of the tagging. So you know, just type an @ and then the username of the person whom you want to see this thread. The names will pop-up and you click on the person you want!

Let's tag @JanaDRasmussen and @ctr sweetie who have posted a couple of Get Involved announcements. These questions aren't being answered by anyone of authority in Indexing or in the Get Involved group. Maybe they can get the ball rolling on helping people who want to get involved.

I have been reviewing names and until yesterday, have had no problems. Yesterday and today, each name pops up again and again to be corrected or matched. I edit and submit and the same "name" comes right back - 3 or even 4 times. It is frustrating, and makes me not want to do the review! Is this an issue that needs to be resolved?

We definitely need an avenue to provide feedback on the new name checking app. There are a lot of glitches. I've done 1000 names and it has become so tedious that I don't want to do anymore until we can get some answers. Having to correct the exact same item 2 -3 times is frustrating and time consuming. There are also times where the interpreted box is way off screen (on my PC) so I have to scroll in and out to get it to appear. Do we know if the app is intuitive and learning as we provide input? I have tried using the app on my phone but I found it awkward and much prefer to use a big screen and keyboard. Who can help us?

I have asked that this be moved to the Get Involved community. In the meantime my two cents worth: I have run into this same issue. It seems that since this is early days for this type of reviewing that the number of projects is out numbered by the number of people happy to try this it! That is great news but in the mean time we will have to be changing locations or surnames to get new names to review. If you are not at present selecting a state or surname then go ahead and try some and see if you get new names to review.

Thank you for forwarding our concerns. This issue isn't that we are finding the same names over and over. It is having to review the exact same portion of text 2-3 times before it will move on to the next selection.

We are seeing the same text with the same names in the same place in that same text repeatedly. Am I understanding your concern correctly or do I still have it wrong?

The problem is that NO ONE involved with Get Involved is answering any questions. There are so many questions in that group that have zero comments, or the comments are just other users who are writing that they have the same experience (problem).

Agree with all your comments. I gave up and went back to doing my regular reviewing. It was just too boring and a waste of time to sit there and review the same name 3 or 4 times before it would move to another name and then site there and review that name 3 or 4 times. Hate to say this, but if that is how they expect us to do reviews, they are going to lose a lot of volunteers.

Thanks, Melissa. I know you would help if you could. Hopefully, the project manager will find out about our concerns and address them. This has been a very poor roll out and very unlike other FS projects.

Indexing is ending up answering these questions as best we can but if you want someone who is in authority with Get Involved then you need to post in that group. And yes we know that questions there have gone unanswered. The 'higher ups' are aware there are issues.

    @airland

Click on FamilySearch Help on the top of this page. Then click on the first box that says Get Involved. Post your question there - no one will answer it. They are not even acknowledging that they are seeing the questions.

The people I tagged in this post are the individuals who made the announcements regarding Review Names and also posted the links to instructions.

You can see when someone was last online in the community by clicking on their names. One of them, Jana, was online this morning so she would have seen the tag and hopefully known to click on the " you have been mentioned" link. Ctr Sweetie hasn't been online since March 12th.

One piece of advice, airland, don't ever say that an answer helped you, until you have the stellar answer to your question! Don't click Yes or No, because it moves the post from the Unanswered Questions list to obscurity and I doubt anyone who might be able to give a great answer is going to consider clicking on a question just to see if the answers are correct.

You might be surprised at who would check to make sure answers are actually given! Still good advice to not check answered unless it really is answered. I check when new comments have been added so if your question gets lost please comment on it and it will come to our attention.

I know that you look, @annewandering and I look, because we do pay attention. But, apparently there are a lot of people who don't look because these questions are going unanswered by the get involved team and that should be considered a problem.

We have to remember that our imputs are helping this program evolve. The more imput we give, the more pricision it will gain over time. Ive had this same problem, and also with the program selecting numbers, dates, column headings etc. As long as we correct it, our job is done.

This shouldnt be something to worry about so please dont feel pressure :(

We also have to remember that the names are computer generated and we know how unreliable, sometimes, the computer is. I'm sure that these "glitches" will be taken care of soon so that peole won't get discouraged and stop revirwing these wonderful records.

If you go to the Get Involved Community you will see that there are questions being answered now by people involved in the program.

Check the reasons for telling the computer two or three times what the name is on the roots tech sessions about reviewing names.

they said something about how the computer will have many different ways it "sees" things, and will ask you to confirm which one it is.

    thanks for staying with this!

All, I apologize for the late reply. I don't have any authoritative answer, unfortunately. There are always small bugs and glitches early on - despite rigorous testing prior to release/launch - that just can't be seen until more users are using the system. It will improve with more use and time.
