Many functions, such as Merge, no longer work
The merge people function was working intermittedly, but seems completely out now. I just get a message telling me to refresh my screen.
Sometimes, I can't click on a citation to see the complete citation in a new screen. Just get new screen telling me to refresh.
Now I can't edit the name of a person on the person screen.
'Search -- Family tree' now gives a strange and worthless search screen. It gives wildly wrong matches, and misses the exact matches.
I figured out that I could use 'Family Tree -- Find' to get the older search screen format, that works. But sometimes, when I click on "search", I get the refresh screen message, and nothing else.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
Regarding, the feature/function, to "Merge"/"Combine", individuals/persons, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'
That is odd ...
I am not having any problem/issues, with such ...
[ Intermittent; or, other wise ... ]
And, I have been regularly using, the "Browsers" of, 'Google' "Chrome"; and, 'Mozilla' "FireFox", both with the "Operating System" of "Windows 10"; plus, ALL, with the LATEST "Versions" of each.
Questions:
[ 1 ]
Is (are), the "Browser(s)" that you use, fully supported by 'FamilySearch'?
Here are a couple of "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch':
Which internet browsers are compatible?
https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/which-internet-browsers-are-compatible
I got a message that the site does not support this browser
[ 2 ]
Is BOTH, the "Operating System"; and, the "Browser(s)", that you use "Up-to-Date".
'FamilySearch', really only, fully supports, the LATEST; &, PREIOUS, 'Versions', of "Operating Systems"; &, "Browsers".
As per the previous/aforementioned "Knowledge Article" ...
Which internet browsers are compatible?
Where, it states, among other things:
Quote
------------------
You have the best experience on the FamilySearch website when you use a supported browser. The supported browsers give you the latest features and provide the best performance and security.
The website supports the current Windows and Mac operating system (OS) versions and one version back.

Have you tired, "Clearing" the, "Cookies"; and, "Cache", of the "Bowser(s)", that you are using?
[ And, even, the "Browsing History" ... ]
An "Oldie"; but, STILL, a "Goodie" ...
More often than not, it seem to enable things to work, which did not ...
[ But, of course, not always ... ]
Here are some "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch':
How do I delete cookies from FamilySearch?

How do I set my cookie preferences?

And ...
How do I keep pop-up blockers from causing issues?
Pages won't open on FamilySearch

I am NOT suggesting, that any of this, WILL make a difference ...
But ...

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

I've been using Family Search with the same computer and browser for years. This is a new problem that just started.
Some of this seems to be fixed now. I can at least make edits on a person page, but I still can not merge.

Justin passing ...
You may have been using, the same Computer (and, "Browser") for Years ...
Question: How "Old" is that Computer; &, do you keep the, "Operating System"; &, "Browser", Up-to-Date?
[ And, what, "Operating System"; &, "Browser(s)" are you using? ]
"Older" Computers DO NOT work well, with 'Programmes', that are continuously updated - eg. 'FamilySearch'.
Plus, "Operating Systems"; &, "Browsers", NEED to be regularly updated, to the LATEST (or, at least, the PREVIOUS) "Version" of each.
'FamilySearch' really only supports, "Operating Systems"; &, "Browsers", using to the LATEST (or, at least, the PREVIOUS) "Version" of each.
Just saying ...
I am NOT having problems/issues with "Merging"/"Combining ...
And, I actually use, THREE (x3) different "Browsers" ...
Just my thoughts

Although, I do not use "Apple" devices ...
I would humbly suggest, that in the least ...
You NEED to have both, the "Operating System"; and, the "Browser", UPDATED ...
That is a 'Given' ...
The Problem/Issue is NOT with 'FamilySearch' ...
The Problem/Issue IS to do with your OUTDATED, "Operating System"; and, "Browser" ...
Just TRY updating BOTH, the "Operating System"; and, the "Browser", to 'see' if that makes ANY difference.
Just my thoughts.

@Cheryl Viering could you share a screenshot of this? I have been using the Merge heavily all this week, without problems. However, you may be on another continent from me, and interacting with a different data server farm.

Brett, I have no interest in wasting the enormous amount of time and energy required to update everything. Especially when I know that doing so will break something else.
Even an old computer is capable of simulating a dumb terminal. The processing is all done on the Family Search side.
Problems with clicking on a button, and getting an error screen are most probably on the server side.
If Family Search has made one function so esoteric that only the most advanced dumb terminals can use it, it is their loss. I've been merging records simply to be nice. I see things that need to be cleaned up, and do what I can. It's annoying, but I guess I'll have to only worry about my records on my computer being correct.

There is not much to see. I click on review merge, and get an error screen saying to refresh my screen.
It used to work fine. Then recently it would work for a while, and then act as though I hit some limit, and stop working. The next day, it would work for a while... Now it's completely broken for me.
We may be on different servers. I am in Raleigh, NC, US, and accessing records from Versmold, Westphalia, Prussia from the 1700s. I don't know what servers that puts me through.

As a fallback, could you use the Family Tree app on a mobile device? I actually prefer to do merges using the app.

Unfortunately ...
Contrary to your declaration ...
It is BOTH, prudent; and, necessary, to have one's, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", up-to-date with, if not the LATEST "Version" of each; then, at least, the PREVIOUS "Versions", of each.
These days, many "Programmes" (eg. 'FamilySearch', being one of them), actually REQUIRE that one's, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", ARE up-to-date, with either, the LATEST; or, at least, the PREVIOUS, "Versions", of each, for "Full" functionality.
Whereas ...
I still have, some OLD "Computers", working, to use (OLD) "Programmes", that NO LONGER (easily) work on the NEWER Computers; and/or, on either, the current, "Operating Systems"; and, "Browsers", of today (eg. PAF; and, CD's). As, I do not have, the time; or, the energy; nor, the knowhow, to get either, my OLD "Computers"; or, the various "Programmes" (and, CDs), to simulate/synchronize, together, with the new.
Plus ...
You certainly would NOT, be wasting your time and energy, keeping your, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", up-to-date, with, if not the LATEST "Version" of each; then, at least, the PREVIOUS "Versions", of each.
Keeping one's, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", up-to-date, with, the LATEST "Version" (or, at least, with, the PREVIOUS "Version"), of each, is easy; and, does not take too much time or effort.
In fact; as, a User/Patron of 'FamilySearch', you are certainly doing yourself, a distinct DISSERVICE, by not keeping your, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", up-to-date, with, if not the LATEST "Version" of each; then, at least, the PREVIOUS "Versions", of each.
As, it is clear, from those "Knowledge Articles", in 'FamilySearch', that I previously proffered, that it is NECESSARY, to have one's, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", up-to-date, with, if not the LATEST "Version" of each; then, at least, the PREVIOUS "Versions", of each, for the "Full" functionality, of 'FamilySearch'.
Good Luck.
Just my thoughts.
Brett
ps: I am often happy, to remain with, the PREVIOUS "Versions", of my, "Operating System"; and, "Browsers", for a short while; BEFORE, updating, to the LATEST "Versions", just to ensure, that MOST of the "Bugs" and "Kinks", have been identified and addressed/fixed, with the LASTEST "Versions" - Hey, but, that is just me.

Brett, I'll give your repeatedly pushed opinion all the consideration it deserves.
It looks like I need to be blunt. I heard you. I disagree with you. I'm an old hand with computers and know a few things. Apparently more than you. Now go off and try selling your merchandise to someone else.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, my old eyes need a bigger screen. 😉 But I will keep the possibility in mind. Luckily for me, the merge function is working again. So. problem solved. For now.

@Cheryl Viering, it looks like Family Tree is having a bad day. I am also getting some blank pages.

Each to their own ...
You are not alone ...
Many do not agree with me ...
Plus, you most probably do, know more than I, with regard to "Computers", many do ...
[ And, most especially, in regard to "Apple", Devices; and, Products ... ]
Regardless ...
All the Best.
Brett
ps: I am NOT "Selling", any 'merchandise' ... I have been, helping; &, assisting, in this Forum, for many Years.
pps: And, I WILL simply continue to, help; &, assist, in this Forum ...

I am just a patron as well, but I know Family Search is in the pocess of updating the search parameters for the "merge persons". This could be causing the issues.

Since my last comment in this discussion, 2 days ago, I have merged many profiles without problems.

It worked for a few days, but it's down again for me. There must be quite a lot of software changing going on. I'll be glad when they get it all sorted out. Updates can be such a pain.
