I tried to start Ontario tax records and the sample made no sense and I don't know where to go from there.

There are a couple of things that will help you learn how to index. The first place is to click on the Indexing tab at the top of the Main Page, then click on the Help Center. It will take you to a page that says Guided Tour. That is a good first step.

But, I always like to recommend a phenomenal video to new indexers.              Indexing Discussion (Jason Pierson Live)

Click on that blue link and it will take you to a video with a great indexing lesson from Jason Pierson.

Along with Melissa's answer we would like to add that there is no shame in returning batches that you feel uncomfortable indexing. Go to the upper left corner and click on the Batch button then the Return on the drop down menu.

Thank you for asking questions! You are going to do just fine.
