Some birthplaces list the name then says, "now Poland" or a name and then, "formally this place." Which one do I record?
?formerly? Difficult to answer without knowing a reference to the particular document to view. My best guess would be to record the place that is listed not a 'now Poland' or a 'formerly/formally this place'. Is the document in English or I suspect a foreign language?
Obech, Grodno, Russia
That's what I'd put...without trying to verify their existence and not seeing the record.
It is in English
Declaration of Intention, St. Louis Missouri. For the place of birth one record says...
Born in Holmes, Czechoslovakia formally Austro-Hungary.
Another said Obech, Grodno, Russia now Poland
