Quote Folding - How many levels deep should we start folding up quote trees?
Is there a fairly simple description of folding a quote, and an examlpe?
Is there a more complete description of folding a quote, and an examlpe?
Please explain what this feature is used for.
Thanks

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
For those Participants (ie. Users/Patrons), who have been in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, for a little while, the place where such is found is somewhat easy ...
The place in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum where that "Folding a Quote" is located is:
Under one's "Profile"; and,
Then, the "Edit Profile" function; and,
Down to "Quote Settings".
Pictorially ...
I hope this helps.

Hi Douglas,
Can you please help us to understand where you are finding "Folding a Quote", so we can help.

Excellent that you knew what was being referenced here! I hadn't a clue - even after checking out this unfamiliar expression in Google.
However, could you please enlighten us on the practical use of these options, especially I was unaware of any available settings. How and why would I ever need to apply this feature to my profile?
Thanks.

I have been here, a little longer, than some; and, am I have always been curious and inquisitive by nature ...
And, I was 'waiting', on some 'detail', from an "Official 'FamilySearch' Representative", from the "Administration" of this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
But, as none has yet been forthcoming; and, as you ask ...
Enlighten, 'No', just supposition on my part ...
Firstly, I was thinking, NESTED, 'Answers'/'Comments'/'Post'/'Polls', like we used to have in the OLD 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum; but, then, I realised that such "Nesting" DOES NOT exist in this NEW Platform of this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
Secondly, I was thinking, of "Quotes", within "Quotes", in ''Questions'/'Answers'/'Comments'/'Posts'/'Polls', in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; but, as, I had not seen any, this was just a passing thought.
To be honest, I DID NOT like the idea, of ANYTHING, being 'Folded" (or, possibly, 'Hidden'), in any of the 'Questions'/'Answers'/'Comments'/'Posts'/'Polls'; so, I made sure/certain that 'mine' was set to "Don't Fold Quotes" ▬ well, at least, until we FINALLY get advised of what it was all about.
Again, to be honest, I am not even sure/certain that the Feature/Function/Facility is even "Active" yet, in this NEW Platform of this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum ▬ may be; but, who knows?
We can only but wait and be enlightened ...
Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your response, Brett. This type of terminology is not my strong point. Not being a user of social media, I had just come to terms in accepting "threads" (on GetSat), now I have to think in terms of "discussions"!

Quote folding refers to how to display a comment when it includes quoted text that includes quoted text. Quoted text can be included using the ``Quote button under each comment.
So far very few commenters here are abusing (or even using) that button. I am thankful for that.
Quote folding is a viewer option each of us can set in our Community profile. It applies only to our own reader experience, and does not affect how the site looks to anyone else.

Demonstrating included quotes. This is the first comment.

This is the second comment.

This is the third comment.

This is the 4th comment in a chain of comments with included quotes of prior comments. I won't do any more. To see the effect of the quote folding feature, change its setting in your profile and refresh your view of these last few comments.

The profile setting is having zero effect on dontiknowyou's example posts. They always show no more than three levels: the latest comment (unindented), the previous comment (indented in a box), and a link for any comments before that (in the box and above the previous comment).
Set to "don't fold quotes":
Set to "1 level deep":
Set to "5 levels deep":

FYI
Hm ...
I was thinking along the lines, that this may have had something to do with, those "Quotes", being other 'Posts', embedded in 'Questions'/'Answers'/'Comments'/'Posts'/'Polls' ...
Whereas ...
That Said ...
I did what you suggested ...
I accessed that "Quote Settings"; and, "Changed" that settings of that "Quote Folding", trying ALL the available option; plus, 'Refreshing' (as you suggested) each time ...
But ...
That Said ...
FYI
I DID NOT 'see' ANY difference, whatsoever.
What am I missing?

The "Quote feature is not working like it did. I saw someone use it here . . . cannot remember or find that topic at the moment. I dislike nested quotes, so am not sorry to see it not working.
