Help needed - stuck in search and looking for ideas or support
Hello,
my family and I are looking for Marie Kostaszczuk born 15th August 1888 in Văşcăuţi pe Ceremuş (former part of Austria-Hungary then Romania and today Ukraine).
She happened to by my Grandfathers mother, who also was born there 16th July or August 1920. One daughter is still alive and 88 years old today. Finding information about her own mother, would be a true gift for her.
Being ill of cancer, Marie gave her little daughter away as she was at an age of 6, the father was sent for forced work to Germany that time, so she hardly knew her. Marie died alone in a hospital around 1941 in Brno. She didn't get to marry my Great-Grandfather until 1939. We can only guess, why this all happened, but probably will never find this out.
So at least we hope to find out where she came from, who were her Parents and what were they doing and hopefully find some ancestors, too.
We are reseaching since a while and are now totally stuck. After I found some church records through familysearch and was full of hope I might finally find some new information about her, we were once more taught to be patient again, since I found no trace of my great-grandmother - again.
We have documents that prove she was born there and even my grandfather was. His birth certificate shows the number of the book his records have been stored, but it seems impossible to search after those numbers, since the microfilms obviously have a completely different numbering.
It is also impossible to visit the area right now for us.
We are grateful for every hint what to do. <3
Thank you in advance.
Susanne.

Sorry, but your best answer is the Research Group - which you say you have tried. This Community Q & A is for support. The Research Group is for just that.
Sadly, many records have been lost or destroyed thru' natural disasters, wars, lack of funds to provide archival quality storage etc etc. Researchers can only find what still exists.
Do not give up. Miracles do happen as you continue to work with those who have expertise in that area.

The following link which is about Jewish records gives some alternative names for Văşcăuţi pe Ceremuş which was in "Chernivtsi oblast"
"
It says it is/was? in N Bukovina.
There is a FamilySearch Wiki page Bukovina Church Records which describes Northern Bukovina parish registers ."The parish registers and transcripts are being microfilmed in the Central Historical Archive of Chernivtsi (formerly Czernowitz)"

Thank you so much Vincent, of course I already joined this group and placed my question there also. No answers yet.
I also tried to call the telephone support for Germany, but the number doesn't exist.
There must be a way to find something if I have the Church-records-book-number I believe

Thanks so much for the first Link! I haven't found this one yet. :) Very interesting.
I searched all the records (over 2000 pages) in familyserach.org without results. So I suppose there must be more church records somewhere still. Maybe in Kiew Archive or in Austria. It's really an adventure. I don't give up that fast though :)
