How does a contributor have the right to wipe my tree?
Here’s the facts,
I messaged a contributor when I noticed she (Susan Pretorius) made a mistake by placing my third great grandmother in my great grandmother’s position. She sent back nasty messages and wiped out my tree that I’ve spent quite a bit of time researching and working on!!!!! I’m flummoxed that this could happen and I did not ask for her help.

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Short Answer:
Because, "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is Built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
Technically there is no way to STOP another User/Patron working along the SAME 'Ancestral" Lines.
But ...

Do not disappear ...
There are some, actions that one can take; and, options available ...
Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch', that somewhat addresses your problem/issue.
Here is the FIRST "Knowledge Article":
[ But, your particular situation/circumstance, has gone beyond this following "Knowledge Articles" ... ]
How can I prevent other people from making inaccurate changes to Family Tree?
Now ...
After that ...
As you can 'see', "Collaboration" needs to be undertaken.
But, when "Collaboration" FAILS; and, provided that there is NO "Abuse" ...
Then, there is this "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':
How do I report changes or problems made by other contributors?
comes to the fore ...
In particularly, the last sentence in that "Knowledge Article"; which, is very IMPORTANT:
Quote

If you have questions regarding inadvertent, suspicious or potentially malicious errors in records that you are unable to resolve per the instructions above, contact FamilySearch Support.

Your particular situation/circumstance, really now, borders on that of "Abuse".
As Such ...
This "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':
How do I report abuse, spam, inappropriate memories, and other content?
comes to the fore.
Now ...
All That Said ...
As, you have undertaken "Collaboration" with the particular User/Patron in question, causing concern; and, that "Collaboration" has FAILED, which it appears, in you case; and, as it also appears, the matter now borders on "Abuse"; THEN, hopefully, the "Moderators" [ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel)] HERE, in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, can TAKE this matter DIRECTLY into the Workings of 'FamilySearch' "Support", to help/assist you; and, communicate with you "Privately" via/through either, "User Messaging" in 'FamilySearch' (including this Forum); and/or, DIRECT "E-mail".
You are not alone ...
Most of us have ... been then ... done that ... still do.
Good Luck
I hope this helps.

This is why I have abandoned trying to keep my online family tree up to date. People keep putting in wrong details. Sharing a tree sounds like a good idea but not everybody does valid research. People can really mess up a tree so easily.

To report this person in Family Tree, click on their display name and a report menu will pop up.
To clarify, the messages are insulting. You can report them. You can also mute the other person. Ordinary changes to the shared tree are routine, not actionable.

Thanks for the info, Brett!

Brett
ps: It most probably occurs, each; and, every, day ...
pps:
▬ That is the 'Nature' of the in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
▬ Here is an old 'standby' of mine, that I have (oft) previously proffered on occasion ...
Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic 'nature' and 'premise' of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.
Please let me explain ...
We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
And, most importantly ...
We DO NOT even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, Our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors/Family/Relatives in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

There are so many things I love about Family Search. But lately every time I look at my tree I get upset and frustrated to find no regard for documentation. Someone just takes a name and runs with it, it does not matter is the people have any common threads or not. They fill up the tree and then there is no place for me to put my years of research because I do not feel good about delegating another persons work no matter how messed up it is. I find myself coming to Family Search less and less because it is just too frustrating and time consuming. I just do not know where or how to put my research out there..

Yes!
This is why I was so angry that Susan Pretorius “fixed” mine. She had the wrong person in place and I just sent her a msg stating that politely and she went off the rails. I did report her and told her to perhaps try another approach, ie to suggest or recommend instead of being an ****.
