How to view baptismal records Mainz, Germany
I have reason to believe my ancestor was born in Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany between 1834 and 1836. How can I view the Catholic baptism record images from these years in Mainz, page by page, from the church book records? Is this available on-line within Familysearch or perhaps a website in Germany? Or would this be completely unnecessary because all those names have been digitized, such that they are searchable by last name?
Kindest regards,
Mike Mulhausen

We understand that you desire to search records from Germany, Rheinland-Pfalz for your ancestors.
Because this part of the world has experienced many boundary changes over the years we recommend that you start at our Research Wiki. Go to Search -- Research Wiki and then search for your place Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. This will lead you to the FamilySearch Wiki page outlining methods and places to research your ancestors.
If you run into a film that has a camera with a key above it you will have to go to your nearest Family History Center to view the record. The contract we have with the repository demands this action for viewing and we cannot change that. To locate your nearest center (we have over 5,000 for your convenience) go to Help (circle with ?) and enter Family History Center for the article on locating your FHC.

You can find Catholic records for Mainz in the FS Catalog. Some of the records are indexed and can be searched by name. But to view images you must be at a FHC or Affiliate Library.
