Quoting from GENUKI, "WINDLE, a township in Prescot parish, Lancashire; containing part of the town of St. Helens"

So the actual parish appears to be Prescot. This is supported by an image that can be found on Ancestry at

    https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/2478/images/32883_276531-00187?treeid=&personid=&hintid=&queryId=4ab9a6534d4d0e8f9fea892f1d65943a&usePUB=true&_phsrc=cbQ84&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&_ga=2.235628865.1509412880.1629125887-1120896961.1626021713&pId=9538992

which lists James' baptism in the parish records of Prescot. This states that the parents' residence was Haddock, which is probably Haydock , which is within the borough of St Helens.

My confusion stems from the two lines in each record referring to the christening place:

    Christening Place: Windle, Lancashire, England

Christening Place (Original): Saint Helens, Lancashire, England

So my question at this point is, if I wanted to see a microfilm image of the record, would it be in the registers of Prescot or St. Helens?

Your response also brings up another confusing issue. I know that my Owen family was from Newton le Willows/Haydock but James' christening recorded was recorded in the registers of St. Peter, Newton on 24 Sep 1758. I can not view the image from the link that you sent, but if it shows a christening that took place in Prescot for James, that would be another point of confusion.
