How can I find out where my great grandmother Agnes Handley was staying in Providence, Rhode Island?
My great grandmother, whom I believe was born possibly in Ballyleague in Roscommon in Ireland c 1862, travelled to Providence in Rhode Island aboard the Helvetia in May 1883 from Liverpool to New York. Her brother William was born in Salmons Lane, Ballyleague Roscommon in 1866 but there is no record of Agnes' birth or that of her sister Annie Marie Hanley/Handley c1868 in this part of Ireland.
Agnes married my great grandfather Thomas William Martin, from Tipton in Staffordshire UK, in Providence Rhode Island on 17 Oct 1884. Thomas had been staying at 252 North Main Street, Providence at the time but Agnes' address is just quoted as Providence. She had arrived in New York with two other ladies - Eliza Handley aged 27 (born c1856) and Ellen Handley also aged 27 all described as Servants. I do not know whether these were relatives/friends/unknown to each other and merely coincidental. Following their marriage the couple returned to the UK where they remained until their deaths. Family memory thinks Agnes' parents, Pat Hanley/Handley and Mary Ann Connors/Connolly, may have also emigrated, possibly to Providence, and it was said that Agnes got homesick for America. Agnes had a sister Annie Marie Hanley who married John Joseph Hafey and they lived at Lockwood Street in Providence at this time.
I do not know if Agnes was employed anywhere during her time in Providence and have tried to find any information on her and her parents.
I would be very grateful for any information/advice you are able to offer to find out not only about her but also anything about my 3x great grandparents. Thank you in the meantime for taking the time to consider this request. Kind regards Linda Wright

Ljay, First I would try Familyseach if they don't have any thing, then I would look in other places like American Ancestors, Ancestry, and if need records out side the US I would also try Find My past, Geneanet, Their is many Places you can look, but I would start with the one I have suggest. With Area you are looking at I would try American Ancestors before Ancestry, for many reasons, in this case, mainly due to the area. A good place to start would be the 1870 Census. and any records before 1884. after those tips all I can say is good luck, and I wish you the Best at trying to find what you are looking for.
