I've been searching for the parents of the above Phineas Sherman. He was born in Rhode Island 9/12/1770 and died 8/25/1855 in Leydon Township, Illinois. He was married to Elizabeth Edic (2nd wife) born 4/1/1784 and died 8/30/1864. I know that these birth and death dates are correct because I have a photo of their tombstone.

I've tried the Rhode Island genealogical society - no info. and Leydon, Ill. There's a lot of information about him moving to New York where he married Elizabeth, and of his family moving to Illinois. I have a lengthy biography written by one of the relatives, but within this document, there was a statement of "I don't remember ever hearing my grandparents names". It figures...lol.

So, if anyone has any "thought" of where else I can search, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Sloan

I have searched every place that I could think of and that has been suggested. When Phineas was born, there were no birth records. I'm now depending on another living person or letters/documents/histories kept by someone that doesn't realize that Phineas's birth parents have been hard to document.

    Hope springs eternal.....

To offer some additional options for searching, there are many suggestions within the article at this link, some of which you have already exercised, but others are worth looking at: https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/when-i-am-searching-historical-records-what-are-the-best-practices-and-tips

There is another resource prepared by a leader at FamilySearch that describes the option of finding "Elusive Records". Seventy percent of the records in FamilySearch are not yet indexed and are only found using the processes described within this video: https://www.familysearch.org/blog/en/finding-elusive-records/

And, keep in mind that every month, approximately 750,000 more searchable records are added to the searchable database in FamilySearch due to indexing projects completed by volunteer indexers.
