FamilySearch Community Signup: What does grant access to my family data mean?

As part of my first FamilySearch Community logon, I had to accept a Term and Condition that granted Family Search access to my family data. What does this mean? What data -- only the data that I consciously post or upload here or will FS access/scan my hard disc?

I suspect that material that I provide here might be sold by Family Search, but what are the limits on the data access that I have given up?

Thank you.

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, one who has been participating in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum for a number of Years ... ]

Short Answer: 'No', 'FamilySearch' DOES NOT need to do so.

"FamilySearch' (formerly: The Genealogical Society of Utah); being, part of the Church, has been operating for over 125 Years.

"FamilySearch' (formerly: The Genealogical Society of Utah); being, part of the Church, has been providing, a FREE Service, to ALL around the World.

There are, MANY; Many; many, Users/Patrons, from ALL around the World, that use 'FamilySearch' just for searching; and, also, MANY; Many; many, Users/Patrons from ALL around the World who participate in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

The "Community.FamilySearch" Forum was originally established on the premise of ...

    Users/Patrons, HELPING / ASSISTING, Users/Patrons.

And, the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, has been operating quite successfully, on that premise, for a number of years.

    I hope this helps.

Sorry, I'm not a lawyer and the long Terms of Service has many legal loopholes interspersed with legal mumbo-jumbo.

My question is simple -- is Family Search going to harvest anything from my hard disk that I don't voluntarily provide?

No. They have no access to your hard drive.

It does mean that when you upload anything to the FamilySearch website, you are granting them full usage rights to it.
