I get: This batch cannot be opened. It is possible that this batch no longer exists or you do not have rights to view it. Please find another batch to work on.

It will, however, let me in after I complete a batch.

I’ve cleared my browser cache and cookies many times, and have tried using a different browser, like Foxfire, I mainly use Microsoft Edge. Both are updated.

Many thanks, for your help.

Can you please give us more details on : it will let me in after I complete a batch.

And if you are able to open a batch please share with us the batch number so we can take a look into the image.

Have you reserved certain number of batches on this project?, can you exit Find a batch and try it again ?

After I complete a batch for Part A, I'm able to open batches in Part A and look through many batch's, but once I've chosen 1 batch, the notice comes up when I go back to choose another batch. It just started doing this in Part B, today.

I have to complete a batch before I'm allowed to check 1 out.

    I have 5 batch's reserved for Part A

    Here is a batch: https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/batch/1495d0eb-042f-41d0-92cf-463c55ecaba2

    Hope I'm clear.

I don't know if this helps, but, you can only check out 4 batches at a time on this project. So, if you have 4 batches of Middlesex Part A in your queue (My Batches) when you complete 1 batch, it will only allow you check out 1 more. If you complete all 4 batches in your My Batches section, then you will be able to check out 4 more batches.

That message usually occurs when you are trying to check out more batches than the project allows.

That is the reason why you " have to complete a batch before I'm allowed to check 1 out." Because you are reaching the maximum number of batches that this project allows.

UK, England, Middlesex—Parish Registers, 1539–1988 [Part A][MSX4-NQW] the easier way is to give us the batch no. In this case it is MSX4-NQW

This makes it easier for anyone to help you - with this MSX4-NQW it brings us to it very quickly.

You can check out up to 10 batches at a time. We suggest that you do 1 or 2 at a time so you meet the due dates. This is an Advanced project so it may take more time due to the handwritting in it.

you can look at the project in find a batch and see the percentage of how much of the project is completed for indexing or reviewing. If it is up to 95-99% it may be difficult to get a batch.

In these cases you look for a newer project to do. Once a project gets real close to being completed they pull it to finish it up.

Thank you for your deligence in doing this work. Especially these older projects with old english handwritting!

Have you tried to check out 10 batches in the Middlesex Part A project, @scable2001 ? I started at 6, then 5 and got the error message until I reached 4 and was then able to check out 4. Babs said in a previous post she has 5 checked out and provided the link which allows us to see her batch with ease.

@FGGM, @Melissa and @Scable2001, thank you all for taking the time to answer my question.

I’ve been indexing for over ten years, I think, and being restricted batches has never happened before. I enjoy reviewing certain styles of old English handwriting so much, that I admit, I hog batches, but only when there are so few of them. It’s frustrating having to search through 20+ batches to find that one, knowing I’m only allowed that one until I complete a batch. Hence the pile up of batches, right now. I have no problem meeting the due date. If the project is near completion, I review those first because I know they could get pulled.

It would be friendlier and very informative if they explained that I'm only allowed so many batches and why, instead of I have no rights to it.

    Again, thanks so much.

    Babs

I am asking about how many batches can be checked out at a time, the number in my head is 10, I am asking an expert.

The answer is You can check out up to 10 batches at a time. Some projects will only allow 2-3.

If you have 5 batches checked out you can only do 5 more. This depends on the project if they are extra hard or big it limits it.

    This is the answer!

Side note: I have been doing indexing since 2001 started on the desktop program and I have continued to index and review on the Web indexing program. Personally, I don't check out more than I think I can do which is one or two.

Correct, you can check out a total of 10 batches at a time. But, you cannot check out more than 4 batches of this particular project. So, you could check out 4 batches of Middlesex parish records, and you could check out 2 batches of a city directory (that is their limit), and then you could check out 4 batches of a naturalization project (because they don't have limit). But, you can't check out 10 batches of Middlesex Parish records at the same time and that is when you get the error message - This Batch Cannot Be Opened, which is what this original post was about.
