US—City and Business Directories, 1749–1990 [Part C][M34W-2NB]
@DHW
Please look at examples 1 and 2 in What to Index. This will show you that there is often no Directory Place to list. Also, please look at the Project Instructions, What to Remember about This Project, bullet point 10, which instructs us as follows:
Do not use places listed in an advertisement as the directory place.
For this directory, the Directory Place would be marked <Blank>.

U S City Business Directories: My question is why have the directory year between the surname and the given name? Very few have the year so usually a blank field. If you forget to tab then you must go back and make the field blank.

You would not enter a directory place based on the addresses of the residents or the addresses in the advertisements. The examples show where to find the directory place.
@LarsenJoyce you can reset the fields so that the directory year is not between the surname and given name (it isn't there on the original entry form). Click on the three dots in the blue bar and Reset Field Order. You can move these fields anywhere you want them and sometimes they get moved by accident. You can click on the fields and hover over the top of the field's entry box. A cross bar appears and you can click on that and drag the field wherever you would like it to land.
Also, an easy way to mark fields blank on every form, like the directory year, put a blank in the first entry field and keep your cursor in that field. Then click on the 6th icon from the right which will copy the blank forward to the following matching entry fields in the batch.
