I was adopted and have that family tree on here and I recently have found my biological parents and family and have them on here as well. I can have them as preferred parents and go farther back on my line which I have been doing. My question is when I have my adopted parents as my preferred parents and go into the Activities section and see who they are related to I can see who they are and how they are related but when i change it to my biological parents as my preferred parents and try to do the same thing I still get the same thing as my adopted parents. I need to know what I am doing wrong. I would Appreciate It if you could help me.

Thank You

Lisa

    Lisa, I was just told that it can take up to a month for changes made to the tree to change in Activities because they only update Activities with the tree once or twice a month. So that might be all that's wrong. So please give it a month and if it still isn't showing you Activities for your biological parents, let us know by commenting on this thread. That way all of the discussion about this problem will be in one place.

    @LisaDiestelhorst thanks for posting in Community, did you try doing a refresh after changing the preferred parents in FamilySearch, to see if that would be enough to correct things?

    Yes I have. I have had it on my preferred parents for about a week. When I try to check it tells me to sign in. I'm already signed in. I even tried it on my laptop and it did the same thing. I have No idea what to do next. I've left a couple of messages with a church member that is on the list and they haven't gotten back to me. It's kind of driving me nuts

    @LisaDiestelhorst

    Just to clarify your problem, when you change preferred parents and go back to the tree view, does it show there that you made the change each time?

    You could try deleting the cookies at FamilySearch by going to FamilySearch.org/cookies and clicking Reset. Also, deleting the temporary files in the browser you are using solves many problems, so that is always a good thing to do. In fact, if you use our website often, it is good to do these things on a regular basis, such as weekly. This article explains how to do that, if you need it.

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-delete-all-of-the-cookies-and-temporary-files-stored-by-my-internet-browser

    Also, have you tried different browsers? Do you have the same problem no matter what browser you are using? Chrome and Firefox are the best to use with our website.

    I, personally, have found that whenever I go to Activities to see the ancestors I am related to, it's different every time. This is because the results are based on the information in Family Tree, and Family Tree changes all the time. And it always goes back so many generations and then forward so many generations to find famous relatives that I am probably no more related to any of them than I am to you or anyone else I meet on the street. Some users might have a different experience, but I think this is typical.

    It doesn't change for my preferred parents. As long as I have it set it's set. It does the same thing on my laptop. I can be signed in and when I go to activities it has me sign in again, so I'm back to square one. All I want to do is see who I may be related to.

    @LisaDiestelhorst

    In my comment, I asked, "Just to clarify your problem, when you change preferred parents and go back to the tree view, does it show there that you made the change each time?" And you replied, "It doesn't change for my preferred parents." So that makes it sound like the problem isn't only in Famous Relatives in Activities, it's your whole tree.

    So if you change the preferred parents, that should change your parents in the tree. If you are saying it doesn't, there is another way to do it. You can go to the Landscape View of your tree and click on the arrow to the left of your parents box and then choose the other parents. You can toggle back and forth between the two sets of parents at any time depending on the lines you want to see and work on. This article explains:

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-set-the-preferred-spouse-or-parents

    If this was the problem, and you are able to change your parents this way, please let us know if you are then able to see the Famous Relatives of your biological parents in Activities.

    It stays on my preferred parents until I change it. It's doing the exact same thing as before. If I change it I see my adopted family. I change it back and then I can see my biological family, but it doesn't do the same thing. I can go in and see where I'm from but it won't show me family activities fo my biological family. It still shows my adopted family. Even though my biological parents are my preferred parents

    Lisa, have you added your biological parents' parents and their parents? The more ancestors you have in each line in Family Tree, the more results you will get in the Activities. If your biological parents, and possibly even their parents, are only connected to you, the Activities would have no way of finding other relatives connected to those lines.

    Lisa,

    I notice a message isn't here that I thought I sent. It might have been a private message, which I can't see now. But wanted to be sure you got this information. While checking into this for you, I was reminded that the Activities page doesn't update immediately like other features in Family Tree. The Activities only get updated about every two weeks of every month. So that is probably the problem. So try leaving your biological parents as preferred for a month and see if the people in your Famous Relatives change within that month.

    Hopefully, that explains the problem you have been having.

    I'm still having the same problem as before. It's Absolutely driving me Nuts! I have 1 tree up with both my biological family and my adopted family. Do I need to make the trees separate instead of having the button as making preferred parents. I've had it on preferred parents for over 2 months and I'm still seeing the same things. No one seems to know how to fix the problem. I'm just Frustrated

    As far as I can tell, all of the activities and relationship features on FamilySearch ignore user settings like "preferred", and instead use whichever relationship is the default-preferred -- which I think must be "earliest entered" or some such random thing.

    (By "default-preferred" I mean the setting that shows to someone who has never visited the profile before.)

    It would be nice if we could get input on this from someone who actually knows. I have been unsuccessful in turning up a Help Center article on the subject.

    I know. I have emailed the church site and No One will message me back. I don't want to make a separate tree. I was told I wouldn't have to but Nothing is working
