On the In-Person help, we have two available for members of the Independence Stake of Zion, Independence, Missouri.

  1. A Family History Center is located in the Midwest Genealogy Center which is the "Main" FHC
  2. There is a small Family History Center in the Riverview branch building

Note. The only Family History Center listed for Independence Stake of Zion, Independence, Missouri is the second one.

Please fix this.

The Midwest Genealogy Center is not in Profile either as a FHC or as an affiliate library. It is listed on Find a FHC as an Affiliate Library. "This location is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. Access to certain collections may be limited. Consider contacting the library before your visit."

The problem is that they are the FHC for the Stake, they have been for years. The other location is a small room accessible one night a week with even more limited resources.

The library is open mega hours as it is the larges public genealogical library in the U.S.

Can this be fixed as the other location is technically not available for most of the other 9 wards in the stake?

We researched this issue and discovered that the 'In Person" help posting is listing, as it should, only those that are church Family History Centers, so you must go to Find Other Family History Centers to locate affiliate centers. For your information the process is now underway to change the name from Mid Continent Public Libraries to the current name the Midwest Genealogy Center because you have posted this information.

By using this philosphy, you make it harder for those who move here and do not know adding another stubbling block to people doing their family history. How would one know the difference between and affiliate center and the FHCs?

The Midwest Genealogy Center is the best FHC there is here to use. Besides the side by side and one on one help, they provide a class room for individuals to bring youth groups in for Indexing classes or research classes. They also part of the FamilySearch book scanning group.
