Question: Searching for records for Caswell County, North Carolina filtered by collection = United States Census, 1790 returns 1,926 results, but no images ( https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?treeref=GZ5Y-3Q2&q.residencePlace=Caswell%2C%20North%20Carolina&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.residenceDate.from=1790&q.residenceDate.to=1790&count=100&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on ). If you click on a record's "view" link (take the first result, William Jones, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VJ1N-8DC?treeref=GZ5Y-3Q2 ), you see the record citation and the option to Check Image Availability; Check Image Availability --> BROWSE THE FILM takes you to M637 Roll #7 (as advertised in the citation) but the roll itself ( https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YY8-SRSF?i=3 ) contains no records from Caswell County, so I'm wondering where the information for the 1,926 results is coming from. (Would like to review the images, if possible.)

Thanks,

Dan

@Daniel_Campbell; it looks like the Caswell County, North Carolina portion of the 1790 United States census did not survive. I refer you to 1790 NORTH CAROLINA CENSUS INFO, found at http://www.ncgenweb.us/ncstate/1790census.htm.

Quoting from this site, "As substitutes for heads of household, taxpayer lists for Caswell and Orange in 1790 and for Granville in 1788 have been published with the rest of the state’s 1790 federal census in The Colonial and State Records of North Carolina."

You can find the Heads of Families for North Carolina that appears to be used for Caswell County at the following website, at page 79. Note that William Jones does appear on page 80. https://www2.census.gov/library/publications/decennial/1790/heads_of_families/north_carolina/1790h-03.pdf

Note that you will have to scroll down to page 79, where Caswell County begins.

    I hope this helps.

I checked on Ancestry and there are no images there either. I believe that these were just transcriptions so perhaps no images are available.

Thanks! I appreciate this answer and will pursue (in fact, I have it open right now)...Is there a way to suggest that the returned search result links I mentioned ( https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?treeref=GZ5Y-3Q2&q.residencePlace=Caswell%2C%20North%20Carolina&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.residenceDate.from=1790&q.residenceDate.to=1790&count=100&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on ) be separated from M637 Roll #7, since that roll doesn't contain any corresponding data? Maybe even connected to the "Heads of Families" page you reference? If, going forward, it saves a couple of dozen people as much time as I spent looking at that roll, it might be worth it.

    Thanks again,

    Dan
