Portraits
For a week I have been trying to put my family portraits on Family Search but keep getting a message saying the problem is your end and try again later.
All my family portraits were taken by my family and not copied from external sources so why cant I upload them.
Although I am not a LDS member for 12 years I attended srvices in Fresno California and now live in UK.
Best Wishes Edward Spencer Dyas.

I don't know why you can't attach a photo to a portrait in FamilySearch. I just added a photo to my portrait that I uploaded from my Dropbox. I have also added photos from my gallery. If the instructions I attached don't help, I suggested you go to contact us under the help menu (Question mark at upper right side of the FamilySearch page) and either call or visit a local Family History Center for personal help. Good luck.

Hello @Edward Spencer-Dyas
Am I understanding you correctly -- are you trying to add photographs to Memories?
If things aren't working exactly as they should, you might try some computer "housekeeping" chores, such as clearing temporary files and cache, resetting FamilySearch cookies, switching browsers and/or restarting your computer.
If needed, here is the knowledge article that explains how to delete the cookies and temporary files stored by your internet browser:

note that once you have uploaded an item to FS - you can never upload it again (as the same exact file)
and if you do attempt to do so - you will get the error you refer to (at least if done from the gallery)
(if you are trying to upload the same photo to more than one person - you CANT - - you upload it once - and THEN you link that one item - to all the people you want it linked to.
but also note - there are other scenarios that can cause the same error.
The statement "try again later" - - should not be assumed to mean that the problem is on YOUR side - nor contrary to what it says - does not really mean that if you try again later you wont get the same message.
its just a default message that you get when the system knows there was a problem - but doesnt have a specific error to give you - the error is very misleading. 99% of the time - the issue is with FS - or with the fact that you are trying to upload something that has already been uploaded.

. . . (it is not so uncommon for people to think they are uploading a new item when the item already exists in their gallery collection. ) sometimes this will happen when a person believe a first attempt failed when it truly didnt - and they try and upload it again - but it was already loaded.
be sure and check your gallery for these items you are getting an error on.

Let us know if you were able to resolve the issue
but Im betting that the file you are trying to upload is already in your gallery collection.

I find when I merge two individuals in family search all the portraits in memory go away, and I have to reload them if I have any in my file back to family search.
why does family search not have family portraits attached to a family group sheet like ancestral Quest that can be printed.. The portrait pedigree in family search print out is wonderful
Why can you not add notes as you are matching family groups together from my files to family search, I can one person at a time, not while matching up my file to family search. Family search is loosing a lot of information this way. I cannot always remember which person had notes that family search did not have.

Hello @Neidholdt Sandra Jean1
Regarding merging and memories you might want to review this knowledge article:
When you merge two records into one, the memory items attached to those records are merged as well.

yes Family Search memories items are always merged when two person in Family Tree are merged.
but the use of the term "portrait" in this string of posts above does have some degree of possible ambiguity.
In FS "portrait" is the term used for a selected image from FS memories that is used as a single associated image that is displayed next to the name of the individual.
"Portrait" is also the term for the type of pedigree format shown portrait or landscape.
Though I know for sure FS Memories items are never lost in a FS merge it is possible the associated portrait image on the individual may need to be reset but I have never tested that (yet),
