Marriage banns with objection raised ( UK Middlesex 1778)
batch details :: https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/batch/3253820f-4c32-47cc-ae79-251ab7274a4a
No 480, last entry on the left-hand page
Third sunday says 'Forbid by Mr Robinson . . .'
I take it to mean that an objection to the marriage was raised and accepted, which means that the marriage never happened.
This is the first entry I have seen with an objection so I would appreciate hearing views from other indexers.
My thought is that the banns were published on 17 Jan 1779 and in the abscence of further guidance in the project instructions that date should be indexed.

According to the Project instructions under What to Remember About This Batch in the 4th line it reads: Marriage banns or marriage intention records should be indexed as marriage records. When indexing marriage banns or marriage intentions, the latest (usually third) date should be indexed as the marriage date.
I would put the second date that was given on January 10th, 1779 as the marriage date. January 17th is not written on this particular document so the 10th is the date we would use. Even though the marriage never took place the instructions still ask us to put the banns date as the marriage date. The researcher will know what to do with the information from there.

Thanks for such a quick response. I did consider that date. The banns were called that day but an objection raised, so as you say the researcher will take it from there.
