Name incorrect in one record but correct in another.
Hi
This is a trivial request as it is likely to affect very few people.
There is a "spelling" error on a name transcribed from one document and is correct in another census record.
Name should be Euphemia NOT Euphonia

There is an EDIT tab at the top of the page but I am not authorised to edit.
It would be useful if that message could indicate where to send it to request an edit?

Hi @DavidWilkinson45 ,
Just an FYI...the ability to have user Edits is on the shelf for the next year while this area of FamilySearch goes through a major redo.
One suggestion...have you ever used the Alternate Name option? This means that when FamilySearch goes looking for hints for us, it will also use the alternate name in the search.
Go to Other Information on the Person page. Click Add Information. Alternate Name is right at the top. In the reason Statement, you can explain these two sources. I often write "As seen in the 1881 US Census", or something like that.

Just another thought...census takers may have been the most literate person in the village, but it didn't always mean they were good spellers! I've run across a census of my family where all the nicknames were used! They must have been a census taker and a close family friend! Good thing I knew the nicknames!
I made sure the real name was in vitals, and added the nickname to alternate names...choosing Nickname as the type.

Thank you , I am new to this site so didnt know about adding alternate names.
I have not yet got a tree on this site, so I dont think I can apply the fix. I am currently on MyHeritage as I started years ago and had a lot of the family on a stand alone program they have "family tree builder" which at the time was good as it didnt matter if the internet was working or not. It is a bit clunky to use and I have ended up with two trees- one connected to my Family tree builder and another separate parallel one. I can try and combine them but indications are it is a messy job so I am continuing with the larger one at the moment then will probably get a .ged file and move to familysearch and delete all at MyHeritage.
Thank you again
David

Many have 2 places they work with their family tree. In fact, many would suggest 2! One being FamilySearch which is open edit (like a wiki) so anyone can contribute, change, fix (or not), etc. Some do not like this feature of FamilySearch (I love it!), and so always have their other tree that no one can change. In my many years using FamilySearch, I have noted that the errors are getting less and less as people learn how to use it. It's a pretty robust program that I believe most people only use about 10% of its capability!
If you do move to FamilySearch, be sure to check to see if your family isn't already there. You may not need to load the full gedcom, as it can be a tedious task as you are asked to check each record one by one to compare what's already there because we should only have one of every person in the world showing in FamilySearch (lofty goal). You may only need to load a branch or two. That would save a lot of time and frustration. Reach out if you ever want details and are ready to take on that huge task (no matter what you choose!).
