Why is my Ancestor "Read Only"?
I'm having a hard time find a clear answer to this question. It suddenly appears that a number of my relatives have now been designated as "read only." This includes my own grandfather and several relatives that I personally added to the FamilyTree. There is a lot of information on these relatives that needs to be updated and corrected and I'm unclear as to how to overcome this problem. My direct family line is incredibly small and I am one of only a handful of direct descendants, so I don't know who would have locked these accounts? Thanks in advance!

I've just run into "Read only" on my father-in-law. I have pioneer ancestors that have this designation (I understood it was because their files are so large), but what can I do about this one?

Same here. I knew that more famous or well-known people have read only files, but two of my ancestors in question have simply their names and nothing else is known about them. It doesn't make sense. I mean, it would be nice to find out my elusive 4th-great grandfather was secretly some famous royal, but I'm pretty certain that's not the case. :D

Temporary glitches including server hiccups and internet outages can cause trouble with a website as complex as FamilySearch. I also had everyone get a Read Only banner a couple of hours ago. Didn't have to do anything and everything was fine after an hour or so. Can't really tell if this was actually a FamilySearch problem or if something interfered an internet server somewhere.

This problem seems to be happing to many people. Most have found if they close the program and sign in again the problem is solved. Also a good idea to clear cookies.
