Do I include the periods after the given names that are abbreviated and the initials. I have indexed several leaving out the periods. I am just starting a new batch so I decided I would like to know the preferred method.

    Thank you for your question.

No, you do not need to include this punctuation in your indexing. The only punctuation which should be included is an apostrophe (') for an abbreviated name. For example we are seeing Rob't, or Sam'l, or H'y on many of these directories. This punctuation mark should be indexed.
