We understand that you already have a presence in our Family Tree. Please understand that the Family Tree is a single pedigree open edit system therefore there is supposed to be only one record for each person who has or will live on earth. Please review the purpose statement at https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/what-is-the-purpose-of-familysearch-and-family-tree
To protect the privacy of living individuals on the Family Tree living person records are maintained in a private space attached to the person who created the record and therefore visible only to that person who created the record. Hello @MaryannClark5.
To further clarify the above information, if you have connected yourself to your deceased ancestors, then to connect your child and grandchildren, you simply add them to yourself. Keep in mind that you are the only person who will see these living people in Family Tree. If your child and grandchildren register for their own free accounts, then they would need to add their living parents and grandparents until a deceased generation is reached -- at the point everyone connects to a deceased ancestor, your family's particular part of Family Tree will read the same.

Hoping this helps you as you work in FamilySearch Family Tree.
