Unfollow
I was following and researching KG8R-S9S, Abigail Gorham, but discovered that we are NOT related. I went to her "details" page and unchecked the "follow" button. I still am receiving notices....how do I permanently unfollow....
By the way, this "link" was part of Mayflower notice from FS, which I was following up on...working with the Society and my own research, this proved an incorrect link.

Thank you for your inquiry on how to unfollow Abigail Gorham KG8R-S9S so that you will not be receiving further updates.
What you did by unchecking the "follow" button on her person page is correct. You may also need to check the "Following" list in the shown here;
- In this list you will Click the three vertical dots or People I Am Following.
- Find the Abigail Gorham's name , and click Unfollow.
Attached you will find the complete article found on "How to follow or unfollow a person in family tree" in the Help Center

'Yes' ...
That is one of the 'pitfalls', of the nature, of the "Open Edit" Platform, of the SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ▬ hence, where; and, why, any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
Personally, if I was you, I would KEEP "Following" "Abigail GORHAM" ( KG8R-S9S ), simply to keep on top of; and, just addressing/fixing, any 'wayward' "Changes".
And, if I was you, I would just INGORE any of the "Campaigns" relating to her.
You do realise that, MANY; Many; many, Americans WANT to be connected/linked to those from the "Mayflower". Some, just DO NOT want to believe otherwise; even, when present with evidence/proof.
You can never stop that, in an "Open Edit" Platform, of a SINGLE "One" World "Tree", such as "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
It is really, just a matter, of keeping on top of it ...
Such is Life ...

Dear bonniesamuel1
Unfollowing Abigail Gorham KG8R-S9S was a good start. The next step is to remove Abigail Gorham from your tree. The program will then know not to search for items concerning her.
We wish you the best.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Provided, BOTH, that you have "Unfollowed" that "Abigail GORHAM" ( KG8R-S9S ); and, that "Abigail GORHAM" ( KG8R-S9S ) DOES NOT appear (ie not connected), in your "Ancestral" Lines, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ...
Then, it just might take some 'Time' for the "Systems" to synchronise ...
ie. "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; &, "Campaigns" promoting participation in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
IF, you have not; THEN, give it some 'Time'.
Whereas ...
IF, you have given it some 'Time'; THEN, perhaps there is still some connection, to/with "Abigail GORHAM" ( KG8R-S9S ), in/with your "Ancestral" Lines, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
Just some thoughts.

@bonniesamuel1 . In regard to your having received notifications of a relationship between you and a Mayflower pioneer, that you no longer see, it is probable that there has been a relationship deleted that linked you to that genealogical line. That was how the relationships to the Mayflower ancestors was determined, by a computer.
If you feel that that relationship was correct , but it is no longer in tact, you may want to surf to the end of each family line that may have been part of that connection, then by examining Latest Changes you may discover the disconnect. If you research indicates that there was a relationship between your family line and that Mayflower individual, you may reconnect, using the PID of the individual whose relationship was deleted.

I was notified by FS of a possible/probable link through Abbigail Gorham of NJ to me and back to Mayflower. I contacted the Mayflower Society and went through their process with an assigned representative...she and I did a thorough search and it was clear the supposed link was not correct. That took about 3 months. I made the correction in the Family Tree pertaining to my family line and the incorrect mother and her family---citing and explaining the mistake and evidence found. But since FS allows people to reverse without factual evidence, the record is not correct.
I HAVE thoroughly examined the entire line and in fact, entered much of the data and evidence my self. The stumbling block was the mother daughter relationship held by some researchers of the Mayflower and mistaken connection - and, if you know the process, it was my assignment to unravel that mystery - research and original documents did show the discrepancy, all submitted to the Mayflower Society.
I have in the past, been an ardent supporter and contributor to the FS FT, but far too many of such incidences of changes being made with no substantial, qualified evidence soured me on the project, which is such an incredible idea. I check some of my line once in awhile, as I did today when I got the notification.
Family Search is an incredible resource for research and the wiki and groups offer serious researches lots of solid info and help. I recommended FS to my students taking a 4 part course on Genealogy, as a superior source over the commercial sites. It is because of that that the FSFT does not meet the higher standard of FS itself.
I could disconnect, with credible evidence, all day, but then someone comes along, and restores the connection, citing Ancestry Trees..... nuff said.

Thanks for your kind remarks. I just checked and the explanation for the unlinking of KG8R-S9S (Abigail), along with the daughter, Mary Adams, erroneously linked to my ancestor Adam Fatzinger has also been deleted...I have placed the details and cited the evidence under Life Sketch--
Yes, you are absolutely right, some people are seeking "famous' or upper crust ancestors and some can not be persuaded otherwise even in the face of a trail of evidence!
I understand the open edit concept. that's fine, but no reason not to provide some guidance on the detail page, where one is asked to state their reason, that they follow genealogical proof standard, i.e. is the reason/that you have an original document, primary source, secondary, derivative, etc. this could be little check off boxes perhaps and certainly with a link to "more information about sources" which FS has in abundance elsewhere. Without a tree built on informed, strong evidence, the FS tree is no different than all the others on the commercial side.
I promoted the concept of educating contributors in a friendly way, believing many would take advantage of the education on citing sources, thus greatly enhancing the value. Funny thing, when I taught the segment on citing sources, students found all the validity that brought to their research and many went out and bought Elizabeth Shown Mills tome on the subject!
Brent, I do thank you for your thoughtful comments. I'm pretty sure I've run into one of those in the category of "Mayflower or bust" folks!
Best wishes, Bonnie
