On my tree beside the two children I have there is another box with add child. It will never be filled. There is no other child. Thank you. There must be a way.

    Dear CRode

The Add Child box cannot be deleted. To do so would alter the program. You can make a note in Life Sketch that there are only two children.

    We wish you the best.

    Dear CRode,

All of the prior answers are correct, if not done in a somewhat inappropriate manner. Family Tree, being a one world, one tree, creation is meant to be as universal as possible. As such, items such as "add Child", "add Parents" or "add spouse" are provided for anyone, even the original submitter, in case other information is later discovered and is pertinent to the individual. If you are the original submitter and you are only aware of two children there is always a possible that subsequent to your "accurate" submission an additional person is identified as belonging to that family. Had the "add child" been removed there would be no way for the addition to be made, even though you were very confident that the information that you submitted was correct. Even though you may be correct regarding this family, because it is a one world, one tree, program it allows other families the availability to make the additions to their family tree when more recent information is found for their family.

Thanks for using Family Tree and for leaving your comments. It is through your (and other) comments that Family Tree continues to put more "spit and polish" on the program as time goes on.

and what would you do if you deleted the "add child box" - and then later needed to add a newly discovered child . . . You'd have no way to add them. . . .

"add child", "add spouse" etc are there - no matter if you think there are no more add or not. We have hundreds of other "bigger fish to fry" - than taking away an "add child" option - and then have resulting people complain they now need a way to add a newly discovered child.

when you have added all the children - thats great . . . dont worry about the persisting add child option - there is no need.

I agree there needs to be an Add Child option in your profile. It's on the actual tree where there is no need for the empty box sitting there. Its an eyesore!

that tree is exactly where people can go to add children . . .

it needs to be there so anyone can add a child that hasnt been added up till then

Keep in mind that screen isnt meant to be an immaculate clean family group sheet or pedigree chart - its meant to be an interactive transactional system - where edit options are in your face - and you dont have to go looking.

There are other ways to create clean/crisp family group sheets, fan charts, descendants charts and more that dont have the extra annoying "eye sores" - but that interface was meant for a transactional system where edit options are right there to be clicked on.

The 'add spouse' box is superfluous when a child died. It 'bogs down' the eye as you see the tree and it takes unnecessary space when of course, there will never be a 'discovered spouse'. I think an option to 'mask' the box would be an excellent compromise to be revealed, in case a spouse was discovered, for an appropriately aged individual, not an infant.
