When indexing marriage banns we are told to use the last date as the date of marriage. But if the actual date of marriage is recorded in the margin, shouldn't we put the actual date in?

Yes, If you can determine that actual marriage banns date you would use that date. If you cannot determine the actual date you follow the General indexing guidelines for dates.

    • If multiple dates were given for other events, type the most recent or latest date.

If you have the batch number for this project we can look at if with you and help you determine the date.

    Please provide the batch number.

Some marriage banns are not to be indexed.
