Moderators : some of you are still not following correct procedures when closing/moving a Question

Dear Moderators

If you are reading the posts on "Community" you will realise the appearance of a "Permission Problem" page is causing confusion and exasperation to many members. PLEASE follow the correct procedure (of which your line manager is aware), so we can all be aware that the item has been moved to a more appropriate section (say from "Family Tree" to "Search") or that it has been escalated.

I have looked through several examples today where a moderator has "closed" the question / thread. In some cases, the post is effectively still open - but now in another section. In others, the question is so straightforward there is no way it would have needed to be escalated, but its "disappearance" has denied the opportunity of it receiving an (additional) response from one of the very experienced individuals who visit these pages on a daily basis.

I believe a "fellow moderator" (@gasmodels . ) explained has elsewhere where moderators are "going wrong" with this issue.

This is meant to be of no personal criticism, as we have been advised most of you are new to this type of work and, in many cases, kindly volunteering your time in an effort to help others. You might not even be aware of what happens when you close an item in an incorrect way, but please try to reduce the exasperation being inadvertently caused by misunderstandings on exactly how you should "close" an item that is being moved elsewhere.

Kind regards

Paul W
